Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Bought car used in Oct 2001 at 45000 mis. SInce that time, have had left rear wheel spindle and rotor replaced, rear diff pinion gears replaced, trans valve body replaced, and is in shop now with leak in transfer case, trans band adj, and more brake rotor problems. All this within 5000 miles of driving. I love the style, but cant wait to unload it. Dealer has been great in working with me, but I need a reliable vehicle. Highly recommend ext warranty if you are considering purchase.

  • Manual shift and display problems - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

After reading some of the reviews here I realized that Daimler-Chrysler had a design flaw in transmission/electrical systems in 2007 Jeep Grand. At 24,000 miles our dealership replaced a transmission module to correct the slow acceleration problem. At 60,000 miles the manual shift option no longer functions at all . The dash warning light systems light up like a Christmas tree for no reason while driving and the check engine light goes on and off for no apparent reason. I saw several reviews describing the same problems and wonder what can be done if the dealerships cant find the cause. No doubt Daimler bailed out because they suspected big problems on the Horizon. A major recall is needed

  • I wouldnt buy one if I were you - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

These cars are lemons. Every complaint here will eventually happen to you. Just replaced starter, now coolant leak, AC switches broken. I mean come on this car has 42,000 miles on it. Id stay away from Jeep products, they are clearly not designing or building anything but a heap of junk.

This is our 5th Chrysler product, my 2nd GC and 3rd jeep. Purchased it with 122,000 miles on it. The interior is quite luxurious, the paint is in excellent condition, engine compartment is clean. This GC is the Rocky Mountain edition. We looked at Suburus, Hondas, Nissans, Toyotas and Fords. In the end this used GC fit the bill for us. Everything else was way overpriced for the year and features. The 4.0L is a reliable engine, everything seems to function well. For the money we couldnt find a better value. When its time for repairs we know we wont pay an arm and a leg for parts since most of this jeep comes from the USA. We just finished an 800 mile road trip no issues.

  • FUN!! - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I ordered my 2006 SRT8 brand new in 06. It took 3 months to get but it was well worth the wait. I now have over 100,000 miles on it and have never had to do anything but change the oil. (and tires) Last month I put a carbon fiber hood on it, and right now its at a performance shop having a turbo installed. Its not great on gas but I didnt buy it expecting it to be economical.

  • Give it up Fiat - 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jeeps are no longer the American staple vehicle. Poorly and cheaply made, over priced and do not hold their value. I would NOT recommend blowing your hard earned money on any of them.

  • The new 2005 Jeep with Hemi engine - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I had a Jeep for years and waited till the 2005 came out with the new body and all new features. I have never driven such a quality vehicle in this price range. With the new suspension and new Hemi 5.7 engine it is a truly wonderful drive. It has the pick up you need and the smoothness for complete comfort.

  • So Far So Good - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Purchased Jeep a few days ago. Test drove Jeep (2 times), Pathfinder, 4Runner, and Mountaineer all overnight. By FAR the Jeep fit our needs. Very smooth ride and new outside styling is very eye catching. Different ride than truck based models. Traded 2000 Jeep and got $1000 over invoice.

  • Check Engine again? - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I purchased this vehicle as a "certified used vehicle." I also got the extended warranty just in case. What I got was a certified piece of [expletive deleted]. In the little over month and a half that I have had the vehicle, the service engine light has come on for the 4th time (today) and the transmission still hunts for gears while accelerating (basically it cant decide if it wants to shift down or not, or just shifts down too early.) This weekend Im trading it in. I got in over my head with this piece of junk and Im worse for the wear, but Ill take the hit to get rid of it. As much fun as SUVs are I believe Im going back to a car.

  • GREAT 5.9 - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I have an Acura and a 5.9 Jeep and the Jeep is much plusher and less troublesome than the Acura. Both have the same miles 50-60k. The rpm on the Jeep could be higher to get a little more power it shifts at 4450rpm. ItÂ’s a fun car to drive and the only serious drawback is mileage -- 12.5 to 20.
