Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Enjoyable Ride - 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We purchased our 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee new in 94. We took a drive the first month from North Carolina to Colorado... put 7,000+ miles on it right from the start. We just turned over 170,000 miles and are getting ready to purchase a new 2003 Grand Cherokee... This has been a wonderful vehicle for my wife, she loves the ride and the comfort. She is looking forward to a new Jeep, and hates to see this one go...

  • I hope the newer Jeeps are better! - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I bought my Jeep with 47K miles and until recently its been great. I now have 100K miles and several problems. The tranny is poorly design because I now have slippage. The interior door panel are garbage due to the poor choice of material(it shrinks in heat). I have to replace the distributor next, after just replacing the ball joints. If the ratings for the newer models are as bad, Jeep will soon be out of business.

  • Loved it! - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I cant say enough good things about my Jeep. I bought it used with 18,000 miles on it. I finally turned it in at 120,000 due to the age on the car gas prices creeping up to $4 a gallon. This jeep got about 18-19 avg. It was reliable and durable and comfortable. Fun to drive and looked good as well.

  • 115,000 miles and going strong - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I bought my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo new in 2004. It was a V8 demo model with less than 1,000 miles. I got a great deal on it because it was a demo and because of a $6,000 cash incentive. Ive driven it now for over five years and have put an average of 23,000 miles per year on it, mostly highway. I had the shocks replaced at around 50,000 miles and all four axle seals replaced at about 70,000 miles. Actually, the rear ones were the only ones leaking but I thought Id better go ahead and have them all replaced. Other than those two issues, it has been surprisingly reliable. Major services were done at 30K, 70K, and 100K and I did most oil changes myself every 3K to 5K miles.

  • Bad locks and a lot of engine heat - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I had to replace the locks because my jeep has one key hole and that door quit working so I would be locked out for weeks at a time, have to wait for the battery to go dead and triple A to send a locksmith to get me in. The heat coming from under my jeep when it is running is so tremendous I do not drive with my window open and nobody can stand next to it and talk to me through the window without feeling like they are being cooked. My back window does not open and the windshield wiper back there falls off if I try to use it. The heat takes an hour to actually get hot by then its time to get out of the truck and doesnt matter.

  • Rough, Rough Idle - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This will be my 4th Jeep and last. Purchased new and ran great for first 10,000 miles. Started to have rough idle problem when in drive. Had 4 different dealers work on it with no luck. They just say V8s idle rough in this vehicle because idle RPM is set too low for lower emissions. Cant change computer settings. What bull! If buying this vehicle used, look for one with at least 15,000 miles. This idle problem does not set in until later. Very smooth running V8 but idle at red lights or traffic a joke. Passengers will ask you whats wrong with your car? Brakes also need frequent work. Only buy this vehicle with a power driver seat.

  • Tom Wells - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I really like my Jeep. My wife enjoys it even more. It is the nicest vehicle we ever drove as far as comfort and ease of driving. The only minus is the noise level inside the Jeep. I think it is somewhat noisy, as to wheel gear noise.

  • First Jeep owned - recommended by my son. - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Averaging 21 mpg on highway -- very pleased with that. Our Jeep is very easy to slip into -- not like other SUVs we looked at. We dont need running boards or a ladder to get in to our Jeep. Ride is perfectly acceptable -- quite smooth in fact. Heated seats do not cycle on and off in the heat mode -- steady warmth -- nice here in Wisconsin. Killer stereo system! We were very happy to find ours with every option imaginable expect for a sunroof which we did not want anyway.

  • Poor clothing seats material - 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

2015 Grand Cherokee Altitude, it drives great and I love the way it looks with sharp style. But I got disappointed with the quality of the interior seat. The seats are kind of mix clothing with surrounding leather. After 3 months of purchasing I started to notice that the middle of drivers seat start to tear on me. I contacted the dealer and they took a pic and sent to the Chrysler trying to replace the seat since it still under manufacture warrantee, but the response was negative. I am really disappointed and still angry because I am very sure that was not my fualt and I am not a smoker. So this replacement is going to cost me about $800.
