The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  I bought my Jeep with 70k on it and and have driven it 5k and my fuel pump needed replaced, a shock was leaking, and my tranny just went out. Each one I had to pay $200 deductible with Chrysler. Thank goodness I bought the extended warranty or id already be out like $4k! If you purchase this vehicle buy the warranty! If I were you though, look elsewhere!

  Have had very few problems in the past 1000 miles of ownership. Better than an RX300 by far. They have a "ghost bump" in the driveshaft in this year but that has been rectified through a Tech Bulletin I will have done as well as many of the other complaints here. Do your homework and your problems will be fixed. Mine a 10/98 build and beside the ghost bump and a leaky rear hatch window I have NO problems. Dealer himself replaced a bad window regulator also. Just like everything else theres good ones and bad ones.

  MARCH TO THE SUMMIT - 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee

  So I looked at about every SUV out there and anything that came close to the Summit in terms of the quality and quantity of features was significantly higher in price and also imported. The only other candidate I really liked was the Explorer and it really could have gone either way. The color combination of the Summit as well as the overall reputation of the Jeep brand was really what pushed it over the top. This one was the premium white with the sienna brown interior. I only wish that this vehicle came with the V8 option at less than extortionate pricing. The V6 pulls and runs really well but there is nothing like the grunt of the Hemi. That being said it wasnt worth another $5,500.00 being added to an already fairly significant sticker price. So far I absolutely love the vehicle and dont yet have one thousand miles on it. There is a long way to go.

  A Jeep Thing - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

  This is my 3rd Jeep: an 85 Cherokee (used),96 Grand Cherokee (new), and now this one, an 05 Grand Cherokee. I test drove several 03 and 04 GCs (used) and the new model is far better in many ways. I also owned an 04 TrailBlazer, which I promptly traded after 9 months. It was very floaty (like an old Buick). I wish I had not sold my 96 Grand Cherokee for the TB. So far, I am very happy the new GC (19,500 miles). The ride is almost car-like, but still firm. The 3.7 liter is very capable and responsive. I would only consider one of the V8s if gas was cheap or I had to tow heavy loads. I average about 18-20+ mpg, which is not bad for an SUV with AWD. The list of standard features was also pretty good.

  Own 2000 Jeep GCH laredo 4x2, 4.7L , 59000 ml. had only some small problems (locks,brakes,speed sensor....). When buying used Jeep make sure youve got lot of money for fixing and maintenance and lot of patience with dealer service department,get model with V8 engine (gas milage is almost same like with V6 models - i have average 16.8 mpg and drive mostly around the town )- but on the end this SUV is worth it.

  I have owned the last three Jeep Grand Cherokees and can say with personal experience that the 2005 Grand Cherokee has taken the brand to new heights. So far Im averaging 19 mpg mixed driving which is pretty darn good. Overall I really like the 05 and really feel I got a lot of value for the money. A Japanese SUV comparably equipped would have cost considerably more.

  I have to say I love the look of this Jeep. It has class and its sporty. I love the way it drives. Its smooth and I get about 23mpg on the highway but in the city it only gets about 13.5mpg so that could use some improvement. What I dont like is when I come to a stop the transmission down shifts very hard and its just annoying. Ive only had it for about 2 months and I like except for that small problem. I really wish they would have kept the old transmission instead of going with a stupid Mercedes transmission because I dont like the feel of it. I havent had other problems with it but then again I have the 100,000 mile warranty and my Jeep only has 23,000 on it so that will work.
