Overview & Reviews
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Great SUV...until 70,000 miles - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Iowa Banker - September 1 - 10:00 amBought mine 2nd owner, low miles. Loved driving it: comfortable, stylish and plenty of power. Maintenance and reliability issues popped up after about 50k miles. Tire/rotor troubles, replaced brakes, etc. then had the front drive shaft go out @ 70k on a roadtrip 500 miles from home. Traded it before I poured any more cash down the hole.

never again - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By going broke - August 30 - 10:00 amUntil the past year I was very pleased with the 5.9. However, in the past year (since about 55,000 miles) I have changed the front rotors twice due to warping, (once was covered by a Jeep recall)and replaced both the front and rear differentials. In addition, I have a transmission leak which hopefully is only the pan gasket. All this despite the fact that I have followed schedule A maintenance recommendations. I will never buy another Chrysler product again

WOW!!!! - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By tts - August 30 - 10:00 amThis thing moves out- I came from a cadillac eldo with northstar engine and I thought that moved out..Muffler noise is excessive but handling is smooth and going over bumps is fantastic for an SUV. No rattling noises, no squeeks. I test drove the Envoy, Trailblazer, Explorer, Yukon, Sequoia, 4runner, and the Mercedes Benz 320 & 420. I liked the Mercedes the best but for the money You cant beat the jeep!!!

My 5th Jeep, tried others but came back - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Mo - August 28 - 12:43 pmThis is my 5th Jeep since 1998. 3 Laredos, 1 Liberty, and now Grand Cherokee Limited with the Hemi. Love it! Tested Lexus 400H and Nissan Murano, but came back. Really feel secure in this vehicle when driving down the road. Heavy, smooth. I am 52", 95lbs, and can see (slight blind spots in back like all my Cherokees) and reach everything. Love the satellite radio, auto high beam, window wiper sensors. After the Liberty, which still have, love how the wind doesnt push me around in this vehicle. Drive 500 miles to and from work every week and this makes it really enjoyable. Cant believe the compliments from co-workers in the parking lot.

If you like your Jeep Service guy... - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By NewJeeper - August 27 - 11:23 pmAfter 5 months of ownership here are my thoughts. Youll love this vehicle if you live near the dealership, because you will likely be visiting them often. Ive had AC problems, lots of them. AC gets stuck blowing heat if you turn the selection knob too fast. I actually had cold air blowing out one side and heat out the other. Gas mileage is terrible with this thing, TERRIBLE. The transmission shift is also horrid; you have to wait for it to catch up when shifting from reverse to drive. Good thing it has manual override, its about the only way to get the performance up to par. Other than these problems its a good vehicle and fun to drive.

Worst Vehicle I Ever Owned - 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Joe - August 27 - 4:43 amBought this car new. In 4 years needed major engine overhaul. 2 years later needed new transmission. Sold it instead of replacing trans. It was in the shop for something all the time and was recalled multiple times. Will never buy another Jeep/Chrysler vehicle. Also, too small inside. Buy a Tahoe instead.

Not to bad!! - 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Pineman - August 24 - 3:53 amI bought this Jeep used with 128,000 miles. This one has the Inline 6. I have only put a couple hundred miles on it but it seems to run great. I cant believe how good the body is holding up. No exterior rust yet. The only issue i have with it is the transmission has a very slight leak. When I park I see one or two drops of tranny fluid on the ground. After a tranny flush and new seal, no more leak. In the past I have never been a Chrysler fan and still am not. But this vehicle so far is my exception. I like it and I could NOT pass up the deal I got on it. So far, no major complaints. Overall satisfied. I know several people that got 300,000 miles on the inline 6. Hope I do also.
