Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Generally, I like the Jeep a lot. All things considered, mileage seems good for this type of vehicle at 18.5 average with a 70/30% split between local and hiway driving. The brakes seem weak, but most new cars do because they use those wimpy organic pads instead of the carbon metallic ones. My rotors warped and had to be replaced in the first 5000 miles (warranty). This was with just normal driving, not with towing anything. The new ones seem better.

  • Everything you want in a great package - 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The jeep has been trouble free and reliable. It had a couple of minor issues that required a dealer service visit but they were taken care of quickly. I have the Diesel engine and it performs great and gets about 30% better MPG than the Hemi. Its pretty quiet and very comfortable on the highway. I love the heritage and classic look of the jeep.

  • FLEX FUEL ENGINE IS AWESOME - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Nice to run 105 octane fuel that is the same price as regular. Makes the performance fun, especially in the winter. GREAT SUV!

  • Love-Dislike relationship - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Bought with 600 miles - two weeks after purchase in shop for blower motor in fan, gas cap light on, whistle in air conditioner. 1 month later - gas cap light on, still noise in a/c, wind noise from all doors, low voltage light. 2 weeks later - gas cap light on, seats badly stained from water, etc! 6 days later - check engine light on, still noise in a/c (after being repaired-ha-each time). 1 1/2 months later - seats replaced; still stain, noise still in a/c, problem with rear vent. Had surgery, so not driven for a bit. May 06 - wind noise around all doors, sway bar links bad, 4WD light on, bumper paint peeling. All have been repaired, but Jeep customer service is a joke and cant get answer on lemon status.

  • Update after 3 weeks of ownership. Shame on Chrysler! - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Took delivery of my new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Drove it less than a mile from dealer. Transmission would not shift out of first, and radio would flip continuously. Faulty steering column control sensor. Took 1.5 weeks for the repair. Drove it for a week and the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. Dealer said they could not duplicate the error. Searching forums, I found others have this problem. Faulty ABS module. The dealer contacted Chrysler at my insistence, who said the ABS module is bad. It is on national B/O. I have been a loyal Jeep customer for years. Just know you are beta testing this vehicle. Never again!! Chrysler said they will not cover a rental, to make matters worse.

  • Good Used 95 - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

The 95 is my 3rd Grand Cherokee Ltd, white, pillow leather, moonroof that has over 100K mi and still going strong. The interior is beautiful. I know my Jeeps and have purchased a new 94 and new 03. The older generation were better build with less reliabiltiy issues. The 95 Jeep only weigh 3800 lbs without me! Thats 2000 lbs less than many other SUVs and 1500 lbs less than the new jeeps. The Outland package has 3" lift, Bilstein gas shocks, skidpads up front, transmission, around gas tank and with a comfortable ride! The tow package adds big radiator, high amp alternator, transmission cooler and stronger gears for higher reliability! Quadra-trac 4x4 goes anywhere!

  • Drews Review - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Only a few gripes ... the transmission seems to shift awful late. When you come to an incline, you give it a little gas, and nothing. Stomp on it, and it will wake up but who wants to do that? Also, the A/C seems to be a little anemic ... our 02 Grand Cherokees was too.

  • No Problems Yet - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I purchased my pre-owned 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with 55k miles. I read all of the bad reviews before buying. (i.e. Brakes, Transmission, ext.) My dealer threw in a 3 yr - 36K bumper to bumper warrenty. Havnt had to use it as of yet. A lite rattle in the transmission, that does not affect shifting is the only concern. Engine performance is excellant. Gas milage was a concern before buying. Ive averaged between 17.5 to 21.5 per tank. About 360 miles per tank. Im happy with the vehicle so far..
