Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

I drive a Jeep Laredo Cherokee 05. I bought it used with 18K already on it. I have owned it 3.5 years. Other than routine maintenance, I have not had to replace one part. At 46K, I even have the original brake pads. At the last brake inspection, my trusted mechanic said I may go to 50K or beyond on them. A year ago, I was rear ended by a hit and run driver, on one of the famous Massachusetts rotaries. In a smaller, foreign car Im certain my car would have had some serious damage and I would have been sore or injured. Because, I was in my Jeep, I had no injuries and my car only had a few scratches, easily fixed with touch-up paint.

The seats are not comfortable. Water stains the seats, raindrops, sweat, anything. I have had nothing but trouble with this vehicle. It has been in the shop several times for the transmission. I wish I havent bought this vehicle.

Had a few problems like other new cars. Rotars replaced twice, steering wheel leather slip and was replaced, sluggish start which was electronically adjusted, grinding noise when turning in reverse, part replaced, heated driver seat not heating so it was replaced. The dealership was very accomodating and made it all OK. I love my Jeep, feel safe and havent minded my trips to the shop. I am more than likely going to keep it since it is a lease and up in October. But Might get a 2004!

Great Vehicle! This has been a family vehicle for years. This is my second Jeep and Jeeps have been in my family for years.

High end features such as rain sensing wipers and tire air pressure readouts make for safer and less worrisome driving. Luxury truck features at blue collar price. Sure footed. Reasonable gas mileage you really look into the long term averages, the Jeep as an off road capable SUV, averages over 16mpg and doesnt mind 87 octane. It accelerates better than most of the other mid sized trucks and can tolerate 80 mph with 4wd operating. At $37k this is a well equipped, very functional vehicle that in my experience, has not presented any reliability issues.

This Jeep has been remarkable since they day I got it. Very comfortable, smooth ride on the road and even great bone stock offroad. This is a must have for all those who love Jeeps. To all those skeptical of its IFS...it is more capable than you think.

I have almost 30K miles on my Jeep. No major problems and excellent dealer service.

  • Expensive Vehicle-Poor Quality / Reliab. - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I was initially pleased with the Grand Cherokee, but after a multitude of problems, i.e.- broken door locks, defective weather stripping, hetaed seat failure, and replacement / repair of front brakes 3 times by 37,000 miles. The dealer was completely uncooperative and I was forced to write a letter to the CEO of Daimler-Chrysler for North America, Dr. Dieter Zetsche. If you decide to buy anyway look up the TSBs- Technical Service Bulletins on theinternet first as it may discourage your purchase.

Bouth our Limited V8 because of looks and power. THis is the only thing I am happy about with our jeep. We have 14,000 miles on our jeep so far and it has been to the dealershipe 5 times. Two times for paint peeling off the driver door. The back leather seat actually chipped away. The outside passenger mirror actually had a hairline crack in it. The oil pressure indicator had to be replaced. This is my first and only Jeep. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ONE AGAIN. I cant believe it paid 35+ for this piece of YEA! Were trading it off on either a Explorer or a Tahoe!!!
