Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

I have had my Jeep in the shop more then any other car I have owned in 25 years! the transmission was bad, the u joints needed replacing at 35k miles its had at least 3 recalls i have taken it in for. The back brake light works when it feels like it. I notice 9 out of 10 jeeps I see also have brake light problems. Now My drive shaft is out! I am not a crazy driver to work and home and occasional vacation. look up recalls for jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo its incredible how many there are. I like the way the jeep looks but will never buy another one.

  • Great Jeep!! - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have owned Jeeps in the Past and like all their models. Read some of the other owners reviews, I did want to clear one thing up, People it is a In-line 6 cyl. not a V6, Big Difference and was the only reason why I purchased my 04 as 2004 was the last year they offered the I-6 engine. That engine has been around for years and is bullet proof. Great in Michigan snow and off road. Very comfortable, nearing 80,000 miles and just doing regular maintenance. Will Definatley buy another Jeep and Only a Jeep! My Ex-Wife bought a $80,000 Landrover, what a piece of junk, that thing has had nothing but issues. Love rolling up in the Jeep when her car is in the shop!!

  • Its Been a Great Relationship - 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Now 230k miles. I have bounced my Jeep off granite boulders, driven many 24-hour family vacation marathons and used it as a 50 mile/day commute vehicle. Indestructible. Still on the original rotors, starter, alt., etc., more than I can say for any Volvo or GM product Ive owned. Replacement items: tranny at 190k!; a/c comp. @ 130k; radiator (my fault) at 120k; water pump at 160k. Thats it! In every case the equipment has exceeded my life expectations. Oil every 3k, tranny and diff. fluid change every 50k. If I could find another 94 with say 50k, I would buy it can keep it for my son. I recommend anyone who can get this model and year if you can.

  • Great Rig for the Money! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

With two kids in car seats the extra width of this vehicle has been a blessing. We actually have enough room to fit a real human being in between the car seats, making this a true 5 passenger vehicle. Great visibility, comfortable seats, plenty of power, and a sticker price that is well below market value, makes this a good family vehicle. Why spend $10k more for a 4Runner when you can have more power, nicer features, and a better look.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited is a finely appointed, durable and comfortable vehicle. It has been my primary source of transportation for 5 years and I have found the vehicle to be as fun to drive today as the day I bought it.

When I bought this car it had about 50,000 miles on it. I have driven it for close to 2 and a half years and did not have any major problems as of yet. I had to change the front stablizer and brakes. Overall those cars go up to around 100,000 miles and then the problems start to happen. My opinion is do not buy this car with more than 70,000 or you will be sorry for it.

  • A Joy To Drive! - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

All A++++++ marks for this car. I am so pleased, and have received an endless flood of compliments. It has all the features, amenities, and comfort of a luxury "SUV", for $10K less, and the REAL capability to go hardcore off- road. On a side note, I really wanted to mention that if you live in Southern California, avoid Glendale Star Chrylser Jeep. 90% of their staff is the epitome of the sleazy, heartless car salseman. The one guy who wasnt had only worked their for a week! Hate hate hate the dealership, love love love the car.

  • Never again! - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Never again with a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have learned my lesson. Brake rotor problem is famous...I replaced 4 times in 50,000 miles. Had to have $1500 worth of transmission work done at 45000 miles... I will not be buying another Jeep ever. Foreign cars, here I come! I was a Jeep fan until this.(i also own a 98 Cherokee, which performs admirably)

Whats the Caddy commercial say about returning the favor? Yes! My JGC definitely returns the favor! Nice ride, fun to drive and the 4.7L has great pick-up. Havent tried the E85 yet - so cant comment on performance/mileage there. Now that gas prices are down - my purchasing a V8 in June when gas was near $4 doesnt look so stupid. How are people complaining about gas mileage in these reviews? You saw what the EPA estimates were when you bought it - as long as youre not getting worse mileage than EPA estimates, how can you rate gas mileage as poor? Im consistently getting a couple of more mpg in comparison to EPA estimates. Got 21mpg on 600 mile highway trip recently.

  • cry of the jeep owner "never again!" - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Purchased this vehicle brand new off the lot in 2002, have had nothing but problems since day one. Breaks down at least twice per year, I am writing this becaue I am on Edmunds lookin for a Toyota, last night Christmas eve was the last straw, broke down again, seems like it wont come out of four wheel drive and am burning something, smells like oil. Am guessing from the transfer case. Constantly in for brakes and rotors, this is a design flaw, was even a class action lawsuit for the breaks. Power window on pass gone, not working, has been in the shop way too much for a new vehicle. Never again will I buy a Chrysler product.
