Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Jeep Really Nailed It! - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We got the V-8 Overland. Had a 08 which we loved but this one blows it away. Test drove an Edge, Murano, CX-7, but nothing came close. The engine is quick and smooth, it rides quiet even on the highway. The interior cabin is as luxurious as anything you could imagine or want. Ambient lighting around cup holders, door handles, etc. make for thoughtful touches. The wood and leather are gorgeous and the technology is all you need-including a hookup for your iPod that allows you to use the steering wheel controls to change songs, etc. The features and quality compare with vehicles costing $20K more. Drive one--if you can find one. It took my dealer a lot of looking to get me mine.

  • We bought two of them - 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We bought two Jeep Grand Cherokee Limiteds. We have put 12000 on both of them and so far not one problem. Very comfortable. One has the Hemo and the other has the 3.7 six. We have had 7 previous Jeeps and these are the best.

  • Ultimate Jeep: The 5.9 - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I searched for over a year for a 5.9 and it was well worth the wait. For the length I have owned it the only thing which went wrong was that I had to replace the ball-bearings. My dad loves my seats more than his Navigator and it is a head turner. A friend said it drove better than his moms lexus. I wouldnt trade it for anything.

  • Brake problem with this Jeep - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This jeep has been in the shop at least 6 times in 2.5 years. Brakes are the big issue. We have had the front rotors surfaced 3 times in 30K miles. We know two other friends who have Grand Cherokees both with brake problems similar to ours. Chrysler will not warranty after 12K miles. They say it is a wear issue and they are not responsible. My wife drove a Ford Tempo for over 100K miles without touching the brakes. We will not buy another jeep/chrysler/MB due to the poor customer service. The customer service reps have actually told us to go buy other brands because they do not want our business. Also had the power windows repaired/replaced twice.

  • Keep Trying Chrysler/ Jeep - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

For a $30k+ vehicle, the Grand Cherokee is more trouble than it is worth. 4 recalls, 2 rear diffs. later and only 10k miles. I should have bought an MDX!

  • Love my Grand Cherokee - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Ive owned a total of 3 jeeps and I love them all dearly. I bought my 05 Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7 4x4 about a year ago and Im still quite happy with my decision. The 4.7 has all the power I need and is surprisingly good on gas for a V8 (depending on your driving habits). I average about 14 city 21 highway. The Quadratrac 4x4 system is a beast in the snow, even better than my XJ or Ranger were. It has more than enough features. The brakes and suspension are both good -it rides pretty nice. Im also a big fan of the aesthetics of the vehicle, the color scheme and design is tastefully done. If I had to nitpick it would have to be about the door panels. I would prefer more padding and I had to replace one of the door handles. Also had an issue with some leaking from the sunroof due to an issue with the drainage system. I got that all squared away though, ultimately no big deal. Really nice vehicle overall.

  • Great Jeep! - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Purchased steel blue with moonroof, fog lamps and 10 disk changer. Driven 11,000 miles since Nov with no problems. Resurfaced the front rotors at 10,000, but other than that only oil changes. The inline six is a classic that never fails. Smooth, peppy and unique. I get compliments on it all the time.

  • Get the V8 - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

So far, this Jeep has performed fairly well. The only problem Ive had is that I bought the 4.0L and really wish Id have gotten the 4.7L for the extra money. The 4.0 gets about 13 mpg for me and Im sure the V8 could not get much worse, plus the power would be better. The 4.0L is a bit sluggish but has performed okay when offroad.
