Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

This is my 2nd Jeep - I feel theyre very reliable, but it is a DOG in the mountains, no oomph up there at all - all the other SUVs pass me by. Wish it just had a little more "kick" to it! Other than that, its been reliable - I bought it at 21K and Im at 84K right now. Very dependable still.

Our second Jeep. This limited v8 model is a keeper even though there have been the usual Jeep failings 1) brake calipers (which after the third time Jeep replaced on a recall with some super slotted disks for free. No problems since then). 2) hood struts ($300 to replace so still broken. We never have occasion to go under the hood anyway). 3) seat heater. 4) heater box mechanism. All in all very few repairs for 147,000 and nine years use. We are very pleased with this vehicle

  • Jeeps are Under rated - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I was scared to even drive one after some of these reviews but I did and bought one used. Wow, coming from a Rover family this is a super vehicle! Ride, comfort, durability, size, looks are all there. Gas mileage could be better. My wife is buying a 2008 Liberty Limited cause she loves these after driving mine!

  • Blown away - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Two of our 4 kids are in college now and it was time to sell our T&C for a smaller car. Did an intense analysis looking for a new SUV: cheched 4Runner, Explorer, Mazda 7 and 9, Chevies. Nothing came close to the new 2014 GC in value and price. Mine Limited with roof, nav, hitch, everything heated was 34.5K before taxes - no other car had that amount of feature for comparable money. The quality of interior, driving experience, fuel economy (17.8 in city, 24 on the road - 8speed transmission!), quietness, the number of gadgets, electronics - totally satisfied! So far got 2000 miles.

  • Cherokee - most bang for the buck - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I just gave up my 1999 Dakota for a laredo with the 4.0 I had the 5.2 V8 in the dodge and to tell you the truth the 4.0 feels better and more powerful all around. If you compare starting prices with the trailblazer and envoy you will find you are getting more quality features for the money with the jeep, and lets be honest trailblazer has a nice name but i wouldnt dream of taking that off the highway- nobody beats a jeep prowless offroad

  • Piece of Junk - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

When I purchased my vehicle it only had 31,000 miles. The first week I had to take it back to get the rotors replaced. Next the sensor without the relay went. The fan had to be replaced. The radiator had to be replaced. Then the relay had to be replaced. 2x the tires had to be replaced. The front and back rotors and brakes had to be replaced there was a call back on the front end break system parts had to be replaced. To this day I go out to work in the morning and start my truck and it makes all kind of ticking and other noises until it decides to calm down and finally I can drive off and go to work. How much longer will it last I do not know. But you can believe I will never purchase another Jeep.

I have to say that Im overall impressed with the Gran. Cher. Laredo. Ive read alot of reviews on these Jeeps and some of them are way too critical. Although I also have a ticking noise when I start it, the ticking goes away after 5 min. or so. I think if the buyers would let the thing warm up in the mornin they would see the same results. I love the way it drives compared to every SUV Ive drove or even ridden in. Its so comfortable, my girlfriend and I drove 18 hours to Dallas and she slept 3/4 of the way. Plus it averaged 21mpg @ 75mph. I guess what Im trying to say is the Jeep has come a long way, and on that I think we can all agree.

  • Jeep Hemi - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my first Jeep. Last car was a 2003 Explorer, Eddie Bauer with V8 and all options. My new Jeep has every available factory option. Paid $36,901 inclusive of $3,500 factory rebates. This is almost identical to the price I paid in 2003 for my Explorer. Overall, I am impressed. Looked at a bunch of SUVs in this range, and Jeep was by far the best deal. Love the power, but getting 16 mpg overall. Love the slick shifter - works very well in mountain driving. Car is pretty comfortable, but not up to MDX type standards. Better ride (not as harsh) than the Explorer. Overall I would recommend this car.

  • Jeepers Creepers! - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I got my Jeep Grand Cherokee about two years ago from a friend. It has the 5.2 L with 245,000 miles and the motor runs like its brand new. the transmission has just started to leak but as long as you stay on top of the fluid it works fine. great in the snow. everything electrical seems to have broken, drivers window motor, radio, heated seats, speakers, rear wiper, check engine light is on. lots of the interior plastic things break, i.e. center console cover ripped clear off. early in its life it was driven into a parking garage pillar at around 30 mph and it did extensive damage which was fixed with a chain and tree. Overall a lot of little things break, but the essentials cant be killed

With the Hemi and cruise control you can achieve around 17.9 mpg. Not bad for an engine with this much power. The engine does use 5w-20 oil though. Not a common gas station item. The ride however is excellent. Test drive one. The only concern is this is the first year of its production. Good luck, and happy hunting.
