Overview & Reviews
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Love the 5.7 hemi! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By redtires - January 13 - 5:10 pmThis is one smooth riding Jeep. On the street and off road or while driving on the beach it smooths out all the bumps. Acceleration of the Hemi is amazing.

After 4 1/2 years, we traded it in - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By violet7 - January 12 - 6:13 amI enjoyed my Jeep the 4 years we had it. But like another reviewer said, make sure you can afford to maintain the vehicle. I loved driving this car, I always felt safe in it. One problem it seemed with mine was that I always needed new tires. I think I had at least 4 flat tires the years we had it. Not including buying two new sets of tires. The speakers in the top of the dash blew after my husband turned the stereo up way too loud. Finally the radiator and fan blew, then the water pump twice, and the thermostat. (also had to get a new motor for the driver window) Gave up after that.

8 gears of torture - 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Mac - January 12 - 5:16 amworst Carolina I have ever owned. 1st gear bucks, random gear changes. Gets stuck in middle gears. Sloppy gear transition and overall poor engineering. This is the worst transmission I have ever experienced. If you want the truth on this car, read the 2014 reviews. If you buy this truck after reading this you are crazy. I wish I did more homework. I know its a major issue b/c this is the most common complaint. My father in law has exact same year/model and his is fine. Downshift when braking feels like you are in the car with someone that doesnt know how to drive stick. Just terrible.

Overall Good Car - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By GDenton - January 11 - 10:00 amI bought this car for my son and I have had almost no problems with it. We bought the car when it had 87K miles on it and have only had minor wheel alignment problems. It gets great gas mileage for its size; 34 mi/ gal. I think this car is worth looking into.

Good Car! - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Laura Nobles - January 11 - 10:00 amI have had minimal problems with my Grand. I have had to replace the water pump which cost me $42. Ive had a few other MINOR repairs. That is excellent considering the car has 98K miles on it! Ive owned is for just under 3 years. This car is very fun to drive, especially in the hills. I live outside of Austin, TX; and it handles great in the hills. I highly recommend this car.

Will never own another Jeep! - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By mandalay_415 - January 9 - 6:44 amIve had this vehicle since February of 2007 and it has been just an averagely okay vehicle. It started having non-stop problems that most mechanics couldnt diagnose. The worst was when it would shudder/shake, lurch like it was shifting from overdrive to 2nd and just shut off while driving. Not safe! It took 4 visits to 2 different mechanics to finally figure out the problem and only after I told them to humor me and check something that I had found after hours of researching the symptoms online. Lights randomly come on and then go off without registering any codes. I have driven this across the country and never got more than 18mpg. I will never own another Jeep/Chrysler ever again!

45k perfection - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By jeepgc4jr - January 8 - 10:00 amI have owned my gc for one year and at 45k miles with zero problems, I ave.19.7 to 20.9, best at 65 on a trip from calif to denver,co. with 21k miles, ave mpg stayed at 21.5. Tires have been rotated every 3.5k and have a long way to go before changing consideration. Brakes are at 50 percent front and 75 percent rear. Gets washed every sat.morning and looks and rides like a dream. I drive my gc an ave of 3.5k miles a month on so.cal freeways trafic and all, no better car for the money and comfort.

Lemon, no warranty coverage - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By jack - January 8 - 5:30 amHave owned 2 previous Jeeps with no problems. Purchased top of the line hemi limited 4X4 quadradrive; have become very disappointed. Quadradrive system has design problem. Bad vibration between 70 and 80 MPH. Had tires balanced, Drive shaft replaced. still have same problem. Dealer and company refuse to repair. (Cant test above the area speed limit so we wont cover or repair) performance vehicles? They do not back their cars. Chrysler customer care people are rude. Do not buy one! Mileage on Hemi is bad 10.6 in city, 15 on highway at best even after break in. Read Edmunds forums before purchasing any year Grand Cherokee. Jeeps are not Jeeps any more. Bring back my old Cherokee.
