Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Best Vehicle i ever owned - 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My dad gave me a jeep as my first car with 210,000 miles on it. it was in awesome shape, garaged all the time and was good on gas, got about 25 miles to the gallon. the straight six was not short on power and still ran great at 215000 miles. Only new parts on it are; oil pump, U-joints tie rod ends and ball joints, everything else is stock. Jeeps best vehicle ever i think they really designed this very well.

  • Quite a looker... - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I had researched this car for about year before taking the plunge! Well worth it! I bought mine in black and it gets a lot of looks. Unfortunately, the cops like it as well! ACK! People always mistake it for an Escalade or Range Rover if they have never seen one. I smile every time I look at it and love that not everyone in Atlanta has one, like the BMW models!

  • Comfortable P.O.S. - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Good looking car, very comfortable, wouldnt bet my holey shirt on its reliability. Im now riding on a back of a motorcyle, waiting for a new transmission to be put in, ouch. Ive paid more in problems associated with everyday driving than I will for the downpayment of the Audi Allroad Im about to pick up. I want to like the jeep, but it keeps breaking down and falling apart! AHHHHHHH!!!!

A note to everyone with brake problems: There is a rotor fix now. It is a caliper/pad assembly that changes something so the rotors wont warp anymore. No other problems.

  • 96 Limited 4WD V8 - 153,000 miles - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought used in 97 with about 10,000 miles. 143,000 miles and many road trips later, I have had virtually no problems. Other than routine maintenance, Ive only done the front CV boots and an A/C recharge. This is the best car I have ever owned and I would definitely buy another. My only complaints are the gas mileage (14-15 city, 18-20 hwy), heated seats quit working last year ($1,000 to repair...dont need em that bad!), and some of my buttons on the radio dont work unless you press them really hard. Overall very happy with my Jeep throughout the years.

  • Grand Cherokee not for me! - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Buyers beware of problems with drivetrain. Transmission hesitates in reverse, and suddenly upshifts/downshifts from 2nd to 3rd (always has since 45000 miles). Also, bearings in differential are prone to go bad - apparently this is a common problem according to local dealer - manufacturing tolerances were too tight. I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone. Chrysler really should do something about their problematic transmissions. I hate to say this, since I enjoyed the Wrangler that I previously owned, but it had a manual tranny, instead of automatic. Im now lookind at Toyota 4runners, based on their good history.

  • Great Experience - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I looked to Consumer Reports for a report on this "new" style Jeep. At first their reports were very good. Later, they rated this vehicle as "stay away from car!" How absolutely wrong Consumer Reports are about this car. My Jeep has been the very best car I have ever owned. I love driving it to this day. We have had the following problems: drivers side front window motor. Thats it. Car has 105,000 miles on it. Ive never had a car with that many miles on it. In a word - Great Car!

  • Loves to take my money - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

There isnt a better winter performance car on the road. I live in Minnesota and as soon as the snow flied, my jeep becomes the fastest car on the road in 4wd full time. The issue with this vehicle is the continuous repair fees. Ive had the below items replaced as of 122,000 miles. Power window motors front door connection to body master brake cylinder head gasket main seal rear Axel seal cruise control AC/blower flaps shocks 3 sets of tires Driver seat tracks (rocking chair) recall on seat heaters hood and rear glass support CD player display I swear to god if i didnt love this car I would burn it. Value wise, its about as bad as it gets.

  • Cheap Jeep - 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Brakes and rotors on the vehicle are terrible and undersized. The tranny leaks, rear main leaks, rear end had to be replaced at 80k and I dont even go off road. The paint is thin and fades, chips bad. Tire eater, noisy v- 8 engine. Jarring ride, makes people bounce around.
