Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

I bought this vehicle with 30000 miles. It was a program vehicle. Everything was fine until I reached 75000 and then the wheels came off. In the past two months Ive replaced the gas tank, radiator, leak detection mechanism, accumulator, and numerous other things. I should have paid more attention to the reviews. Never again.

  • Great Jeep - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I owned a 2002 before this 2004 and both Jeeps have been perfect so far. I like the ride, comfort, and style of the Grand Cherokee. I cant think of a thing that I dont like.

I bought this Jeep new, my first, based upon my mechanic brother recommendation for a solid family car that can handle bad roads, bad weather, etc. So far I have 123,000 miles on her, from California to Canada, to Mexico and back. I have had to replace the tires 2x, the front and rear brake rotors and pads once, the shocks once, both tail light assemblies, hood lift rods. The engine makes a ticking sound now, has since about 110,000 when shes cold, which quiets down when the engine warms up. The interior still looks great, although I have replaced floor mats twice. The car has made weird clunking sounds since new, which has never presented a problem

  • CD Changer issues - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Overall I really like my Jeep. It offers a smooth comfortable ride. All controls are easily accessible and operation is intuitive. There is one troublesome issue. At purchase I upgraded to a 6 CD changer. Change is the key word - we are about to install the 4th one in 5 months. Im told the specified unit is new to the 2006 model year and "a lot of units have been replaced". The SUV is great, but skip the CD changer upgrade.

  • Great looking, but.... - 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Traded mine in with just over 20k miles. Simply the least reliable vehicle Ive ever owned. Traded in for a Subaru and couldnt be happier.

  • Persistent and constant issues - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Since 05, had the following issues (85% highway driving): Radiator hose failed. Both front window regulators failed. Brakes failed - replaced rotors, calipers, everything. Rad Fan Control Relay failed. Radiator fan failed. Heater core failed. Engine hood struts failed (x2) Rear hatch window struts failed. Radio knob broken. Evap system failure. Headlamp lenses, after several polishes, just too pitted to restore. Had to replace. Had issue where dash lights were intermittently working - just terrible issue to deal with. Brake line failure - also terrible issue to deal with.

Replaced AC core and catylatic convertor. Otherwise no problems. This vehicle has served our family of four well. From time to time we miss the second row captain chairs in our old van. Helps keep the kids from bothering each other. Overall, we have been very pleased with the car and its performance.

  • Buyers Remorse - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I traded in an 01 G. Cherokee that I loved for the 05. I was drawn in by the new design, smooth test ride, AWD and price. Plenty to like about new design, but not enough to overcome the problems. Had immediate problems with vehicle not starting twice. Computer modules were recalibrated after vehicle spent several days back at dealership. Problem was solved, but I have since brought it back for a recurring acceleration / transmission hesitation problem, particularly in low gears. Computer was "reset" again, but problem persists. Hesitation at slow speeds is just plain annoying. Vehicle seems to need to think about downshifting / accelerating for a second before doing it.

  • First Jeep - I like it! - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This our first Jeep. With the year end deals and rebates, we purchased a Jeep GC with the Rocky Mountain package, that include lots of extras. Also included was an option package with heated seats, remote start, and adjustable foot pedals. The high-end sound system with 6 DC changer and Sirius radio provides great sound. The seats are very comfotable and the interior pleasant. The feel of the brakes is perfect. The front wheel well protrudes into the drivers foot area making it a little tight for the left foot. Gas mileage is fair averaging around 18.3/mpg with normal driving. The dark tinted rear window makes it very difficult to see when backing up at night. Very pleased so far.
