Overview & Reviews
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Best of Three Jeeps - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By denverite - June 27 - 10:00 amWith 45,000 miles on the 02 Overland, Im getting ready to sell it and get into something smaller and safer (do yourself a favor and check crash tests on NHTSA and IIHS websites). Had two Grand Cherokees before this one, a 97 and a 99, and this was the best by far. Stealth luxury car aspects appeal. A solid feel to it overall. Negatives: brake rotors on this and the 99 have warped like clockwork every 11-13,000 miles. The pinion and axle seals all needed to be replaced at my 45 k service. Because ride is "jiggly", my wife hates riding in it. Average fuel mileage consistently at 13. Best mileage, on an all interstate run was 20mpg.

Book by its cover - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By wileescott - June 27 - 12:52 amSo this is my first American car. They did not provide a diesel option for the drive train but that is the model I have. This car has been problem after problem and I am selling it after only one year. Jeep you have really screwed up this model. The latest problem is the DEF injector is made of plastic, located on the bottom of the car and broke right off. You screwed up that part design and location so bad that the parts are on backorder with no known delivery date. So my first American car is being offloaded with a significant loss to me as your design is not reliable. The drive train is where this car is really lacking to pathetic. The drive train has a great deal of lag. Almost dangerous

comparison buying - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Mike Manning - June 26 - 11:40 amI traded in a Range Rover for my Grand Cherokee (5.7 Hemi engine). Rovers are good but very high maintenance, and too many mechanical problems. My Jeep is very reliable, and the upgrades make it a pleasure to drive. I feel safe and at the same time enjoy driving my vehicle. I have owned two Rovers, and this is my third Jeep. I will never go back to the overpriced Rover with all the maintenance headaches. Jeep off-road performance is excellent, and like most 4x4s, it depends on off-road driver knowledge to fully appreciate its ability. I am as proud driving my Jeep on the highways as I was with the "prestigious" Range Rover. I receive as many compliments on my Jeep as I did with my Rover.

Jeep with Mercedes influence - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By MBnewby - June 25 - 9:03 amWe just bought a new 2011 Jeep GC Limited Overland 4x4 with the 5.7L Hemi V8. I had read a lot of rave reviews so we had to see for ourselves and this truck is as close to perfection as it gets!!! Forget its a Jeep and you will think your sitting in and driving a Mercedes ML or GL, probably because Mercedes-Benz helped design this new Jeep GC before they cut ties with Chrysler. Design, materials, build quality, ride quality, etc. are on par or better than all other luxury SUVs most costing much more than this new Jeep. This truly feels like a 50-60 grand vehicle but we got it in the low $40K range. If all new Chrysler products follow this new Jeeps lead they will be around for years.

Thw worst vehicle $30K can buy you - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By WhyDidIBuyThis - June 24 - 2:00 amFrom the day I got this vehicle, it has been one thing or another. It just seemed like everything was falling apart inside-out. Considering I traded in a Honda Accord to get this Jeep, made me feel like a loser even more. Current list of problems - broken transfer case, break system failure, suspensions need replacement, steering wheel alignment, power windows dont work. As you may have guessed, all of this starter happening right after the warranty expired.

By ESTANLEY1961 - June 23 - 8:10 pmWhat can I say this is a fun SUV and has style it is at home in the city or the farm It has taken three kids to college. Pulled trailers my daughter car after she had an accident. It also got me to work which is 40 miles away in all kind of weather snow pouring rain it takes everything you throw at it and comes back for more. the only problems are normal wear and tear and minor little annoying things clock spring door lock speed sensor. I like this one so much I bought a newer model I hope I like it as much

A smooth, comfortable and delightful SUV - 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By insmanblue - June 22 - 4:03 pmOne of the things that really sticks out is how quite and smooth the vehicle is. Its almost like riding in my Acura TL. There is no squeaks or rattles unlike my TL. The GC has many techy things like backup camera, auto dimming headlights and auto wipers that I think are great. I like the new HID lights that really light up the road and adjust automatically depending on road/load conditions. Build quality overall is an 9 overall. Some door panels do not line up. Also the drivers seat bottom needs to be replaced because of a pucker in the leather.

My Last Jeep - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By dparker - June 18 - 2:00 amThis is my third, but last, Jeep. This one has been a disappointment from the beginning. In 56K miles, its had two power window motors, two automatic door lock actuators, a water pump and thermostat, and 2 brake jobs. Jeep admits problems with the brakes via a technical service bulletin, but are unwilling to assist owners in fixing the problem. My dealer says the complete brake fix will cost around $425. The water pump and thermostat, and one door lock actuator already set me back over $500. The window motors and one lock actuator were covered under warranty. The two brake repairs (re-surfacing the rotors) cost around $75 each.

Still Not Sure - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By us6inks - June 17 - 3:36 pmWe bought this car for my son in High School. Within the first week we had 2 windows go bad. Something snapped and they fell down. $450 to fix each one. I have brought it to the mechanic for other "squirrelly" moves as someone wrote earlier, I guess thats just a Jeep thing. I talked my husband into buying it as it was a good deal, it only had 62,000 miles on it for 7k. He will never let me live it down. The car clunks when you almost stop and start again. Had that checked, they could find nothing. The car vibrates and knocks when reversing. This will be our only Jeep. A/C is currently having problems, will be in the shop soon.

Cheap Jeep but Top Dollar - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Cheryl T - June 16 - 11:03 pmI purchased a 2005 Jeep and I find that is built well except the paint. I rate it -1 as is is very poor. My vehicles are kept in the garage and the paint still chips off and looks terrible. They are using a cheap clear coat I guess.
