Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • To drive until it dies - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Have read some of the reviews in disbelief. I bought my Jeep 3 years ago at $4k with 190k miles,. Am a commuter for school and work. I put about 1,000 miles on the truck every week and since purchase, I have added 107k miles on the car but the thing wont die. Apart from regular maintenance, I have only worked on A/C blender doors yet everything else works as it should. At one point I parked the car for a small Honda to save on gas. After 3 months i started getting issues with the Honda and went back to my Jeep. Am not getting rid of it unless the motor dies.

  • The Jeep is a nice SUV - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have had my problems with the Jeep. The two big item I had to get fixed was my A/C system when I first got it from the dealer(?) and my sound system. The radio cost like $400 plus to replace the warrenty paid for that stuff. Oh yeah the breaks wear down like every 14 months, other than that nothing big.

  • Unreliable - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We hit lots and lots of problems nearibg 100k. Had to replace alternator, radiator, faulty wiring, brakes and then the big one...transmission. Mechanic said he would go out of business if it wasnt for Chrysler transmissions. Think again if youre looking for a used SUV.

I have owned Comando, Grand wagoneer, chorokee country ( worst jeep ever to drive), grand larado(2001) and now the overland. This by far is the most refined Jeep ever. Cant wait till the come out with the new wagoneer... driving and handleing is smooth. snow driving is excellent. off road no problems.

  • Still rugged and fun. - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

These vehicles are fun to drive and fun offroad. The downside is the fuel economy with the gas prices as high as they are. The engine is superb, with the straight I6, it has plenty of pickup and go.

I picked this up as a replacement for a 98 GC Laredo that was rolled 1 too many times. I offroad avidly, mountain bike, back country ski/hike, and I need a tank for lack of better words, now I loved my 98, (wish my father wouldnt have rolled it) but this thing takes the cake, you can feel the difference as soon as you pull out of the drive, the quadratrac 4wd gets you out of any mess you get it in, I am running aggressive tires on it, and have yet to have any issues so far, around 149k on the original engine and trans, replaced the drivetrain control unit, I am getting a false signal from my oil pressure unit, but a new $20 unit will fix it. Overall wonderful car I want to keep it forever.

  • Love this Jeep! - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I just purchased my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee a couple of months ago and love it! I know it doesnt get the best gas mileage, but its been reliable so far, and a pleasure to drive! No troubles~love the leather seats, sunroof, etc. This is a V-8 engine. It only has 40,000 miles and I plan to have it for several years!

  • very solid - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have owned this Jeep (2WD GC Laredo) since it was new. Had a few issues - replaced fuel pump seal twice (once under warranty), replaced oxygen sensor. Fun to drive. Has 84k miles now, still solid. Has almost always had a "double-clutch" feel up-shifting from 2nd to 3rd under load, but never gotten worse. I am very pleased with my Jeep.

  • its a chore just to get in the car - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

i loved my Jeep when I first leased it. Now, four years in, i hate it. The automated door locks malfunctioned 1 month after my warranty was up but the service department said it wouldnt have been covered anyway. So its $350 to fix it. Plus there is only ONE key entry on the car. So after four years of owning it the remote entry doesnt work so just getting in the thing is a chore. I have had brake problems and need new rotors again. I will never buy a Jeep again and cant wait to get out of this one. Both my dealer and Chrysler have been unconcerned with my complaint.

  • Should have kept my Audi - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Word to the wise do not ever buy one. I used to work for jeep and when I bought it wasnt sure if I was making the right choice. Then I realized that my Audi was not going to tow my snowmobiles and jetskis so I bought it thinking that since I work for jeep it will be easy for me to fix. Well, I will say I was thinking wrong. This car has broke down so many times I dont even know were to start. Starter rear diff, trans. The biggest of them all was when my wife was driving on the expressway and the seat frame snapped. When it snapped it fliped the seat back about 8 inches. Which almost caused a huge wreck.
