Overview & Reviews
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Initial thoughts - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By motor city - June 28 - 6:33 amOnly driven a few miles. But I thought Id compare to previous 96 and 99 models I owned. I tested the Pilot, which handled typically like a front wheel drive bus, and both V8 & 6 cyl 4Runners, which drifted all over the road at highway speeds, and settled for another JGC because of in- laws employee discount and several rebates (financing, military, and general= $2500). Options included tow pkg. (class IV), 28F (v8), cargo grp. Stickered $32+K paid $26K plus taxes & plates.

Nothing but endless problems... - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By sevans434 - June 25 - 8:16 pmMy husband had a 1999 Jeep and gave it to his mother - still running at 250K miles. Thought we could go for the 5.7 HEMI new in 06 (it was leftover 05 inventory) but I am willing to take any loss to get rid of it now. My battery has died constantly since Feb 2007, 10 months into ownership with less than 12,000 miles. Had the battery replaced twice (at $220 ea - not covered under warranty and no option to get anywhere but the dealer!!), replaced the alternator, replaced defective sunroof motor that was drawing power, repaired an AC leak, replaced the starter and now having the powertrain control module replaced while I am 300 miles away from home and stuck having to get it towed! NO MORE!

My first Jeep - 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By scottka - June 21 - 4:00 amThis is my first Jeep. Ive owned several SUVs and the JCG ranks very favorably with all of them and exceeds most. Although I went with the V6, I am happy with it. Im getting 20.6 mpg with 80 percent highway driving. My range varies between 340-360 miles per tank. So far I have 2000 miles and expect the mileage to improve a bit. The JGC handles good and seems well put together. The transmission shifts smoothly and havent heard the "clunk" so far. I think Chrysler has finally got the message about their poor quality reputation.

If You Can Afford to Run It - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By antbloom - June 17 - 2:46 pmIn Australia the Jeep Grand Cherokee is sold as a premium vehicle with a price to match. Even 1996 models sell at dealers for over $18,000. My experience has not been a happy one; luckily the dealer gave me a 3 year unlimited warranty. All sorts of rattles, whines and leaks plague this car which the dealer seems unable to fix. My advice is admire someone elses Jeep and buy a Toyota.

2002 Overland - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By crhoof - June 13 - 3:05 pmI bought my Jeep a little under a year ago an Ive already up almost 20,000 miles on it. The truck now has 147,000 miles. I paid $5000 for the car and Ive already almost put $3000 into it in work. The truck has no, NO, resale value.. NOT worth the 12.5 MPG I average.. Terrible jeep customer service, and no worth while recalls. Ive had several wheel seals, drive shaft seals, speakers and heated seats replaced and Jeep says these are "not" common problems. Its pretty and comfortable but not worth time/money.. Save yourself and your money

All around perfect vehicle! - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By 4x4thewin - June 12 - 9:47 amAfter such bad luck and poor choice in vehicle purchases I feel like I finally found a gem! Purchased my 1999 JGC from a relative, me being the 2nd owner and it just rolled over 175k miles. Lucky for me it came from the south, as I live outside of Detroit and our roads and weather eat cars up. I love everything about my Jeep, it rides like a truck, but feels smooth like a luxury car. Its had overall minor replacements done, all routine work. Planning on replacing the motor in the next 6 months, as the rod bearings are just starting to act up. Other than that and some foggy head lamps, its in stellar shape. My next vehicle purchase will definitely be another Jeep!

Great Vehicle - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By BronYrAur21 - June 11 - 1:43 pmI bought this vehicle with almost 30,000 miles on it in late 2008, and have since put nearly another 30,000 on it myself. Like other reviewers, I did have an issue with the electronic shift module, which would cause the Jeep not to accelerate properly, though the dealership found a technical service bulletin for this and replaced the module. Since then, no issues whatsoever! I commute 100 miles per day three days a week and have felt very comfortable taking my Jeep even in bad weather. I average around 20 MPG in mostly highway driving.

Fantastic Vehicle - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By schick1222 - June 11 - 10:00 amThe vehicle has refinement where other SUVs dont. I hear some people say that other SUVs in its class have a better ride. The only thing that can be said to this is, when you are in a ice storm, rain storm, snow or a hurricane, its nice to know you are in a jeep. Try clearing road hazards in a vehicle like the Explorer when you only have 6 inches of ground clearence. Jeep has greatly improved its reliability in the last three years. Consumer Reports rates it well from 2000 on.
