Overview & Reviews
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Always something broken on this jeep - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By kg89 - October 17 - 6:24 pmAll I did was pay to repair this thing. Faulty radiator, brake calipers, two engine fans, ignition coil, camshaft sensor, wiring harness, engine computer, engine oil cap broke off and oil had to be put in through the dipstick shaft, power window motors, bad adhesive on insulation on all the doors led to many wet seats after rainy nights. And my personal favorite, the drivers seat became a rocking chair after becoming completely detached from the track. This car was always broken. Not to mention the terrible gas mileage, which I would have been fine with if it were not for the constant cost of repairs. It ended up costing me more money to repair it than it did to buy it in the first place.

Bad News Jeep - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Jim Frye - October 15 - 2:23 pmDealerships fail to stand behind this very marginal vehicle. Although very nice looking even with an extended warranty (dont waste your money), you will pay, pay, pay. Small things like the transmission will keep you in the repair shop until you go broke.

I Like It - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By kcrutchmcfr - October 15 - 11:43 amBought new in time for first child. Wanted something safe to carry him around. Been thru many blizzards with no problems. 76,000 mi and only on second set of tires, 2nd set of brakes. Just came out of warranty with no issues. Very Comfortable on long trips. 4.0 six is one of the best motors out there. This thing has been unstoppable. Just wish I could lock it into 4hi.

Cant expect much more - 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Bull - October 11 - 10:00 amBought in 98 to replace small pick-up, smart buy; still primary vehicle. Have 240K and it literally runs like it did, with little effort. Inline 6 is awesome engine. Around 225K gas mileage began to fall, didnt run smooth. Changed idle air control valve sensor and throttle body sensor (both less than $80) and got back its original mileage & performance. Had trans rebuilt @162K, changed radiator, water pump, some other minor I did myself. The inline 6 is a good buy. Friend has 96 with 483K still running & driving.

Great vehicle, but lousy tires - 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By GreenWoodTurner - October 11 - 10:00 amIn general, this is a great vehicle with awesome power and better than expected H/W mileage. Jeep blew it, though with the tires. Weve sliced (and destroyed) 2 tires on easy gravel roads! No one sells better 18" tires. Will have to downsize to 17" in order to get better off road tires. Chrome-clad wheels on an off road vehicle is dumb ... they chip easily. My wife freaks now when we drive on any sort of rough road. Jeeps reputation has been tarnished in my book!

Very pleased with this Jeep - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Dmoore - October 11 - 10:00 amlove my new grand cherokee. after the test drive i was SOLD! I chose the Laredo "X" package 4X2 which includes the perfect choice of features for those of us that want all of the gadgets without the fluff and bling. kudos to Chrysler for not making the laredo look like a cheap stepchild to the Limited. The V6 is a great engine. Extremely quiet and loaded with low end torque. Im very pleased with the 19 mpg Im getting in city driving. Thats 3 mpg better than the rating! Ride/handling is very confident and refined. Interior is quiet and the climate system fan is hushed too. Fit, finish, design and quality of interior materials is like higher end luxury vehicles.Chrysler got this one right.

Rough around the edges - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By jeep enthusiast - October 7 - 5:27 amSaw this car at a local dealer had 48K on it and ended up trading an 08 wrangler for it. I bought this car with the intention of running it into the ground over the next few years but it doesnt look like it is going to last to much longer. It now has 68K on it a little over a year later and I have had a lot of problems with it. It ran good to start out with but then out of the blue I came to a stop on an off ramp and it stalled out. No warning, no engine light, nothing. This has been an issue ever sense. Dealer doesnt know what is causing it. They have replaced EGR valve and the throttle response censor but the issue and a few others still stand. Other then the stalling the truck shifts rough at times, after putting in drive engine will not rev above 2 grand and act as if it wants to cut out. Engine light code reads cylinder 2 misfire but the dealer doesnt know whats causing the rest. Over all the car is good looking, and mostly comfortable. When running properly the car has plenty of power with the 4.7 V8 and it sounds great. Love all the features.

I love my Jeep - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Jeepman73CJ - October 7 - 2:00 amI will never drive or own another type of vehicle. I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee, with the 5.2L V-8, and Quadra- Trac. I drive it hard both on and off- road, and it has never given me any problems. The Quadra-Trac fulltime 4wd system claws to snowy and icey roads like a wounded animal, and I highly reccomend it for people who live in that type of climate. Off-road is where this Jeep really shines, I have been places in this Jeep that I never thought it could or should be able to go, and even after an unmerciful flogging on the trail, the Jeep ready for more. Like I said before, I will never drive anything other than a Jeep.
