Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Love my Jeep - 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my familys 5th Jeep and I love it! We purchased an 08 Commander in March and this rig a few days ago - by far the most comfortable Jeep I have owned or rode in. I have no preconceived notions, it isnt a BMW or MB Its a Jeep and meant to be dirty and ridden hard. It is responsive, quiet on the road, reasonable at the pump (22 MPG so far), and an overall fun experience. Not to mention I purchased on last day of July and got the $6000 factory rebate before it expired. I have found Jeep very responsive at the dealer level to customer issues in the past - far more than the company car Fords and Mercs I had been driving.

This is our fifth Jeep Cherokee or Grand Cherokee. We have found the vehicles to be very dependable. We have driven on long trips through the Arizona desert in August. We have driven in the cold Nebraska winters. They perform wonderfully in all situations.

  • Figured they would have fixed it by now - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I have a JGC with only 34,000. It has been in for service consistantly for the alignment, but the dealer says there is nothing wrong, every Jeep does pull to the right, it has what they call a Natural Drift. Well I have to hold on tight down the highway since it wants to go right all the time. Breaks need to be redesigned, controls, seats are good. Whinning noise in from the drivetrain, but heard thats norm, well I am not sure I would buy this one again. Thinking about writing a letter to Chrysler how dissapointed I am.

  • Jeeps best engine EVER - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

The inline V6 is the best engine Jeeps ever made, this is fact. Might run 250k ... but, in last month alone, I had to replace battery, starter, alternator, and finally got around to getting estimates on $1,200 air conditioner replacement (leaking), new exhaust, and total electrical system overhaul. My stereo was stolen, and now the windows and locks work only intermittently, and the check engine light has been on for 2 1/2 months, EVEN WHEN THE CARS OFF. No diagnostic tests have solved puzzle. It was fabulous until it went bad, and it went bad FAST.

  • JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED 5.9L - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Purchased used, have done only standard maintenance. Get 21 mpg on freeway, have hauled passengers, 5 large dogs (over 85#), and furniture. Gone 4 wheeling on purpose and not, without problems.

  • Happy Jeep owner - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I have had Jeeps for many years and have learned to love the quirks (e.g. wandering on highway, bouncy ride, poor MPG, noisy, etc.). I recently bought an 06 base model Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 and have been pleasantly surprised given that I had very low expectations as far as performance, ride, MPG, etc. The car is a pleasure to drive. For my current needs I saw no need for the 4.7 or Hemi engine since I will not be doing any heavy towing or rough off-road driving. The one concern that I have is that the city MPG is currently awful. I only have 3,000 miles and hope that it improves with break in and gets closer to the estimate of 17.

  • Auto Off Lights - 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This is my only disappointment with my first Jeep. The auto off for lights is not standard and cannot be added. I havent had to pay attention to turning off lights for YEARS. This could have been a deal breaker if I had realized prior to purchase.

  • Best of the rest! - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Bought to get rid of 2007 Tahoe incapable of towing my boat(up ramp) or parking without hitting a curb(no clearance). 3rd Jeep Grand Cherokee and best so far. Had to replace power steering hose, manifold gasket when i bought it but has been flawless ever since. Wife and daughter love the feel, fit, and finish of interior and exterior plus the power 0-60 --6-7 seconds. Like so much we bought a 2001 as well. If you use the internet you can easily find and fix any problem with a vehicle and save the dealer rip off and run-around. Every vehicle has problems even run away Toyotas.

  • They were made to be run into the ground - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I bought my Jeep two years ago with 174k miles on it (yep, you read that right). In those two years, ive done routine maintance, and replaced the driver side wheel bearings (about a grand at a Jeep delear). NOTHING else ever went wrong with it, but i suspect the other owners might have repaired the brunt of it. Im just now starting to have issues- but the Jeep is about to hit 200K! Beware, they were made to last, and made to be run into the ground, but when they get old - their repairs are NOT cheap! My problem is viscous coupler - OUCH - and sway bars. Will be sad to see her go, but cant sink money into her.
