Overview & Reviews
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.
Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

so so - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By jel82303 - April 15 - 6:10 pmI have not had any major problems with my Jeep. Only that there has been a loud clunking sound like the transmission when I start or stop. I have brought this to many Jeep dealers and was told this is normal...it is the quadra drive. Seems like such a feature should not be so embarrassing to have. Also, have replaced MANY sets of brakes. It does have great towing power and get-up. If you like a cushioned ride in a vehicle that feels like it is attached to the wheel by elastics this is for you. And forget interior room, especially in the back seat.

It wasnt bad at first - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Cindee - April 14 - 10:00 amThis Jeep was a dream until I found out that this jeep lunges for no apparent reason, it jerks, and i have taken it in and no one can really tell me a specific reason why it does this, I would not reccomend this jeep, not unless the manufacturer takes a look at what is causing this lunge

Brakes , Brakes, Brakes - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Laneally - April 14 - 10:00 amI desperately want to love this vehicle, but 3 brake repairs by 35,000 miles (and another one soon to come) has ruined my dream. Only other problem has been some cheap interior molding/weather stripping on the inside of the door (hey Daimler-Chrysler, time to stop using Elmers School Glue and use some real adhesive). Our lease expires next month. I was tempted to buy it out, but I foresee 1 or 2 $500 brake jobs per year in my future if I go that route. Perhaps Ill give the 2004 Jeeps a shot (at least they give us a "loyalty" discount for being a current Jeep owner).

96 Grand Cherokee Laredo - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By J C Golden - April 12 - 2:16 amVery good vehicle with the 5.2L engine and Quadra-Trac full-time 4WD. ABS worked well on snow and ice. One annoying problem with the auxilliary transmission oil cooler lines located near the front bumper--they leak and its a $200 fix to repair them when they do.

Nothing but Problems - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Brad - April 9 - 10:10 pmBought this Jeep with 51K miles on it. Not even 12 months after buying it the problems started and they havent stopped since. Ive replaced the following: front passenger window motor, rear passenger window motor, radiator fan (2x), radiator fan relay (2x), A/C coolant, rear brakes, turned front rotors, and the gas cap. I still am in the process of replacing the passenger side mirror and both tweeters. I now have 82K miles on it and I havent had any problems with the engine and transmission. There are more minor problems that I have but not enough room to write about it.

Ill know better next time. - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By BudmanSnowman - April 8 - 10:00 amGood looking SUV, handles nice, power and traction is good, comfort is second to none, oh by the way that is when it is not in the shop. Had the SUV less than 18 months and had the drive train rebuilt. Bearings, shot, transmission pump making strange noise, replaced. Power window motor, both sides replaced, by auto body friend. Saved over $200 by going to him instead of dealer. AC, shot after 3 years. Never worked real well from day one. Also replaced by auto body friend. Saved over $300 by going to him instead of dealer

Some Good - Some Bad - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Hoopermeadows - April 8 - 10:00 amI purchased my new 2001 well into 2002 and it was a spur of the moment purchase, which was unfortunate because I should have done more research - I may have passed. Its been a nice ride, but dont expect it to have a long life.
