Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • BROKE - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Bought in Dec 01 with 73K. Limited all bells and whistles. Car looks great as if rolled off dealership, cause very well taken cared off. Fun to drive and go for a ride, however the maintenance cost will also take u for a ride. I now have 117K and get nervous, cause I have already experienced some of the problems other users have posted. I had to rebuilt transmission, broken motor mounts, and now a cracked exhaust manifold. Spent over $3000!!! on this car, like throwing money in to a black hole. If you have money to burn, buy this car for fun. Definitely not a reliable car. Get a Toyota.

  • Great Vehicle-Wish Dealer Was - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Overall-the car has been excellent. Reliable, responsive, great looking. However, when a warranty item needs service, dealer will try to wiggle out of it. I was told "There is no such thing as a bumper-to-bumper warranty!" And the extended warranty is another joke. Sunroof leaked when car was 100 miles over the 36,000 mile limit. Dealer charges $250.00. I was told by dealer to contact Chrysler...they couldnt help me.

  • Terrible Brakes-Recall??? - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I have returned this vehicle once due to the brakes grabbing due to poor rotors. It once again needs returned with 24,000 miles. My friend with a 99 LTD has returned his once and again needs it with less than 20,000 miles. Electric windows have been a problem as well. I had one fixed at 12,000 and need another at 25,000

  • Great Vehicle - better than pre-2005 - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Just purchased this vehicle in Sept. after test driving a Liberty. For the extra $5000 theres no comparison. Its smooth, comfortable and solid, with the driving heft of the old Wagoneer. Family member have Grand Cherokees from 2000-2004, and the new V6 has considerably more power. I got the base model, which is very nice, though I did upgrade to Quadra Trac II - seems foolish to not offer a low 4wd gear in a truck of this size. Gas mileage (hwy) up to 25 mpg! (cruise control set at 55 mph, windows closed).

  • The Worst Vehicle... - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

As others have stated, this is the worst vehicle I have owned. This past Sunday, it went to the dealership on a tow truck for the 6th time in the past year (yes, 6th time). The first 5 times were because it would not start - as in completely dead! The battery was replaced 3 of the 5 times. This last time was for the transmission. According to the dealership, the filter cracked and the transmission needs to be rebuilt. They are waiting for a part to come in. Lucky for me, it has all been covered under warranty. I am, however, now afraid to drive it anywhere but local for fear of it failing again and leaving me severely stranded!!!

  • always wanted one - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We have had few problems with our Jeep. We got it in May 2005. There is a recall on a part for the transmission so that was fixed but our check engine light kept coming on, and we barely drove our Jeep anywhere; it was a problem with the shifter. It was repaired after a few days, when they finally figured out what was wrong. Im a stay at home mom so we barely drive it. I love driving it though I used to drive a Civic. What a difference. The only complaint is the trunk. I barely have room for a stroller let alone anything else.

  • started out good.... - 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I have always been a Jeep owner and proud but I bought a 1993 Grand Cherokee Laredo with 64000 miles two years ago and have had nothing but trouble! I have paid more in garage bills than I have in payments for the vehicle itself, everything started off good, just regular maintence here and there and like over night it went from one thing to another and is still running rampant through my wallet, I honestly think because of this vehicle I will never own another Jeep.

  • the Best SUV for the $ - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

the Grand Cherokee is by far the best car for the money. The Jeep has a level of luxury and refinement that rivals that of the land rover or even Mercedes SUVS. Ive had other luxury cars(namely an Acura) and this jeep offers the save refinement and the go anywhere capabilities of the Jeep brand. The interior has so much technology, two LCD displays that are easy to use yet advanced enough. Im very happy with my 2014 Jeep,I highly recommend this vehicle for someone looking for luxury SUV that is refined yet capable. its great car, its as home navigation the mall parking lot as it would be transferring the Amazon. its the best car Ive ever owned.
