Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • My repairs - 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I purchased my jeep in Sept. 99 the pwr window modulator had to be replaced twice, it was still under warranty. The fuel pump regulator went out and cost $150 the front brakes were replaced last year & this year the front & rear rotors needed replacing costing $450 & I still have squeaking. The passenger side air vents does not blow as much air as the driver side & I was told the air modulator would need replacing to correct this problem. Theres water in my headlight kit & a rubbing noise in the steering wheel when turning. I was very disappointed with the costly repairs & resale value. I bought a Trailblazer & Im loving it.

I was casually looking for a replacement for an SUV to replace my BMW 335 when I happened to drive by a Jeep dealer one evening. The Grand Cherokee they had parked out front literally made me stop in my tracks. It looks good in pictures, but incredible in person! The build quality is on par with the X5 and the price of a new 2011 Jeep was less than a comparable CPO 2008-09 BMW. I dont get stuck on badges, I just want a high-quality vehicle thats worth my hard-earned cash. The 2011 Grand Cherokee is definitely a great buy.

  • Great... not so much - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I bought this car prior to winter two years ago. I live in Wisconsin and the winters here are just terrible. I bought it with about 160,000 miles on it. The 5.2 V8 was an absolute beast. Put a K&N Cold air unit on it, and Flowmaster 4 series exhaust and MAN did this jeep go! Started running into problems around 170,000 miles, Fuel pump ($400+ Just for parts), Crankshaft position sensor, Throttle sensor, security system. The problems ultimately led to the sale of this car. Sad day.

    Great car but over priced.

  • Rough Start - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This car was bought new in 05. The first week I saw that rain water would leak into my interior through a hole in the pillar to the left of the windshield. We took it in and got it fixed, stopped the leaking. A few months later the first transmission problem occurred, slipping and then losing power after third gear. We got it fixed and it happened two more times throughout the next year or so. Almost right after I passed the 30k miles, one of my interior LEDs behind the instrument panel died. Now I am not having any problems, except I am bugged that any small splash of water on the seats (cloth) will leave a nasty white stain. But being my car, Ive grown fond of her.

  • Another great Jeep for our lineup - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Have numerous XJ Cherokees that have proven themselves time and again for reliability and capability. Was hesitant to add a Yuppie Jeep to the lineup, mainly because the creature comforts kinda took away from the hardcore Jeeping mentality that we have. But all in all, this has proven us wrong. Who says you cant have an extremely reliable vehicle AND be comfortable at the same time?

  • Best Jeep Yet! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have owned three other Jeep Vehicles in the past and this is the best one yet. I feel totally safe and comfortable with this Jeep. Its ability has overcome all the other Jeep vehicles I have had in the past. My Laredo is actually a 8 cylinder not a 6 but they dont have that choice on here but it is an option. To anyone who would be interested in buying this vehicle, I give it 5 stars and you cant get better than that!

  • Worst Car I Have Ever Owned. Never Again - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Where to begin...bought as a 1 yr lease turn-in. In the first 36,000 miles, had to replace transmission shifter, ignition system, and car would sputter and stall (a well documented issue with the 3.6L engines on two other jeep models). Was told multiple there was no problem and that it was normal (dealerships and customer service). At 45,000 miles, airbag light started randomly coming on. Dealership could not tell me what was wrong. Power windows would come and go. Miles-to-empty tracker is completely sporadic. Do not trust it, find a gas station immediately after the light goes on (within 5 miles)! Cloth seats stain and spot with water. Wrangler tires are terrible, loud and ware unevenly.

  • Excellent! - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My wife wanted a new Equinox or Acadia but after we saw the new 2011 JGC on the lot she fell in love with it. The V6 has tons of power and its extremely smooth on any road surface. Even though ours is just technically all wheel drive it has great traction on dirt and gravel and wont slip when the gas it pushed hard. interior is very elegant for a jeep. We have never even considered buying a jeep until we really looked into the new JGC. If you are looking into ANY type of crossover, take some time with the new JGC, it will make you think twice.

  • 2011 Laredo X 4X4- perfect vehicle!!! - 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I traded in a 3-series after realizing it wasnt as practical as I needed it to be. I havent missed the 3 at all since getting the Grand Cherokee. The Jeep is about 5x more comfortable, with plenty of space for my 64" frame. Never having owned an American car before, I was blown away by the build quality, comfort, ride, and complete absence of noise, vibration, and harshness. I did not buy this to drive fast and the V6 has enough overall power, though there are times when you can feel that its moving such a heavy vehicle. Best highway mileage has been 23.8, not bad with less than 900 miles and 2 adults/cargo/ac doing 80mph!
