Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • 232,000 miles and going strong - 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee

With the 5.2 liter engine, its an extremely reliable vehicle thats taken me 232,000 miles on and off road in fourteen states. No core powertrain work has been necessary so far. The only time I got stuck was in deep, virgin snow without chains when I got off the trail into a shallow ditch.

  • Stay away from them - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Ive owned 2 Jeep Grand Cherokees before the 2007, A 1996 and a 2004. Both were great. As far as Im concerned Jeep should be embarrassed that they even put the 2007 style on the road. 4x4 system is a joke. Your going to get stuck for sure if you travel thru mud or snow. They should all be recalled and sent out to be scrapped. I love Jeeps but this one has me rethinking any future Jeep purchases.

  • New Jeep Owners Assessment - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Contrary to what Ive read at Edmunds and other reviewers on the net, my Jeep Overland rocks! The performance in the Overland is powerful. Ive test driven the new 4 Runner, Land Rover New Discovery, Durango, and Pathfinder before I made my decision. I ultimately liked the cabin space and feel of the Land Rover better, but that truck could not match the Jeeps superior engine or rebates at the dealer. My perspective is from one who has never owned an SUV before and the Jeep represents an upgrade to my 1993 Saturn SL2 (still running well BTW) and 1999 Volkswagen Passat.

Purchased this vehicle after owning a 1993 Jeep Cherokee Country, I put 146K miles on it, basically the only reason I bought another Jeep!!! Drove this JGC exactly 430 miles and the trans wet out, using a loaner for a week and a half, new trans assembly should be installed by the end of the week. BUMMERS, should have kept my old faithful.

  • Brakes etc. - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Rotors and brakes were changed 3 times in the first 20K and thereafter every 30K. Extremely rough ride. Instrument cluster and bezel poorly designed and poor fit. Cat/convertor rattle at idle common to this model at 100K milage. Poorly designed door; weatherstripping results in severe wind noise. Sharp low speed turn results in extremely loud "thunk" from wheels. All the above defects found to be common with several other owners

  • Solid, powerful Jeep 4x4 - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I purchased my Jeep in February 2012. It was a pretty good find, given its age...only 34k miles on it when purchased. Rocky Mountain Edition (nice wheels, leather, sunroof, power everything, heated seats, Boston Acoustics). Ive put 15k miles on it since I bought it...with ZERO problems. The only thing I can think of was I got a warning about my 4x4 system for about 3 minutes while on the highway, but nothing since. Handles well for an SUV, plenty of power (love the torque from the 4.7L), and gas mileage isnt terrible (I can get 20-21 on the highway). Very pleased with this Jeep.

  • Jeep or H3 - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Ive been looking for a SUV for the past 4 months or so. I really liked the H3 but realized that it may not be the most practical. I like styling in a vehicle and Im tired of spending top dollar for foreign car parts and service. I looked at the H3, Nissan, and Toyota. The Jeep seemed like the best choice. So far I have been pleased. Ive seen others complain about the cheap plastics. While I agree to some degree, it does have style to it. The car was designed to be an off road vehicle while still delivering great on road performance. It rides that tight rope very well. On top of it all, I got mine for a song, $22,500 out the door (with rebates). At this price, it cant beat!

This is an all around great car. It has a V8 and drives great. The leather seats are comfortable, the moon roof is great and everything is awesome. I have had no problems. The limited looks great. I love the body style.

  • 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L V8 - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This truck will take anything you can throw at it. It has amazing seats and design in my 2001 JGC 60th anniversary. I have used this truck for everything from off-road to sunday drives. I have recently installed halos, a new sound system, LED fog lights, a cold-air intake, and a high-output chip to make this vehicle roar and not once has it not met my standards. People used to tell me "Its a Jeep thing" and I completely get it now. This truck is more than capable off-road and can still dust most trucks on the road.
