Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

Our Jeep Grand Cherokee is the best overall vehicle for the money we have ever experienced. It is particularly easy to operate in traffic and park in tight places. The continuous 4 wheel drive allows the freedom of off-road maneuvering at the ranch. Plenty of road power. The mileage is actually less than our 97 Cadillac with the Northstar engine system. The Jeep is consistently around 19 MPG sometimes a little less. Love it.

  • Our first AWD Jeep GC - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Vehicle purchased as a lease return with 36K miles. Overall it has been a good car for comfort w/o big money spent for repairs. AWD is nice in wet & rainy Puget Sound weather. The V8 gas mileage is just over 12 MPG after almost 5 years of ownership. Recently hadthe car at a Seattle dealer and were advised that the rear-wheel bearings and CV boots needed replacing. Other reviewers have also noted the interior failures of the linings of the doors but stuff like that IS fixable! Overall we are generally satisfied and feel we have chosen widely, having bought it used and not shelling out the original invoice of around $33K.

  • A deal despite the warnings - 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I was warned not to buy a used Jeep because of several problems with wiring and such. So far, at 129000 the worst proble I have had was the squeaky fan belt and occasional slip of the transmission when the fluid got low because of a loose cooler line.

  • MANNYS TRUE REVIEW...SO FAR !. - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

MY TRUTHFUL experience with this vehicle has been very favorable thus far as I have not encountered any problems of any significance as of today -5-11-03 (nearly 6 months after purchase).I have no complaints about the ride as I have confidence the vehicle will navigate any driving situation I might encounter during my driving experiences on the job which includes going up hilly terrain to remote telecommunications tower sites when required to .Driving the vehicle does not seem to create any unneccessary effort as it is a plain pleasure for me to steer it and make the vehicle perform as I want it to.

I am very imperssed with the overall quality of my Grand Cherokee. It is fun to drive and has easy access,(in & out). The features included in my Limited Edition Jeep are all I could ask for or imagine. The V8 is powerful and smooth. All wheel drive gives a very secure feeling. The road noise is just a bit more than a car, but my car could not do what the Jeep can.

  • Great Vehicle, But - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This is the best on/off road vehicle I have ever driven. I also own a 2002 and it does not begin to perform like the 2005. The problem I have is that this vehicle needs at least 2 to 3 more inches of ground clearance to make it the leader of all off road vehicles.

  • I love the old girl - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have had my 03 GC Laredo for about 3 and 1/2 years, and I love it every second. I blame the Jeep for 1 incident... The coolant sensor went, which left the coolant fan running after I shut the car off. I came out the next morning to a dead battery. I have also fixed the front 2 power windows, but I cant blame the Jeep. I locked my keys inside and tried a jimmy, but I think I messed something up. I also need to fix the power seat switch. It works in all directions, except backwards. Again, I think it has something to do with the snow I had to scoop out of the inside of the car when the window was broken in the down position during winter. I love my Jeep!

  • 1994 Reliable Grande Cherokee - 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

My jeep currently has 236,000 miles and nearing 237k miles. I dont see how it still runs and is very old, but it is reliable and runs very strong. this thing has been thru rain, and much snow but now in florida. Other than the fact I have had to replace a few front end steering parts, 2 fuel pumps, battery, and tires, the jeep is very honorable. It lets nothing keep it from running.

this 2004 seems lighter and eaiser to drive, only problem is a little noisy when accelerating

  • Best Car Ive Owned - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is the most comfortable used SUV you will find. I bought mine new in 2002 and I have never regretted it. No mechanical problems to date, with over 43K on the odometer. Offroad it is amazingly adept and easy to navigate narrow paths on nearly any terrain. On road its a little soft but predictable, with a great turn radius. The seats are so comfortable (my friends Lexus seats are not as comfortable). The 4.7L V8 is a tad thirsty (consistently 17mpg), but the power from the near-300 ft-lbs of torque will silence any criticism when acceleration or off-road grunt is needed. The Quadra-Drive takes me to places my wifes Forester can only dream of.
