Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Sad to see it go - 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Got my 98 Jeep in 2005 after my first daughter was born. another kid and a lot of miles later, 223,700 to be exact, my Jeep still rocks. Living in Georgia does cause it to want to over heat here lately, but what do you expect! I have driven this Jeep from Georgia, to central Florida and straight up to Virginia all in one trip. Made it from Pennsylvania down to Georgia all in one day with no problems at all. The only reason we are considering getting rid of it is due to a maybe expanding family and the higher mileage. Dont want to risk being stranded with kids all by myself! It has never happened but why try? I love my Jeep. Jeep needs to make a van!

Great 4 wheeler. Never stranded me in snow but 4 trips to shop for transmission problems and then a $4500 transmission & TCM on fifth visit at 51K miles. Went to court and won back $3,000 of it. Not happy with service or cost.

Insurance is high, fuel economy is low. Minor problems can be very costly. According to the dealer the fuel pumps are issues. Loaded to the gills it still is nothing to brag about!

  • So disappointed - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have had a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the past. It was like a little tank. Great ride, sense of safety, held the road. I loved it. Not so much with the 2014 model. It has been in the shop 6 times since I bought it in November 2013. Once for acceleration problems and 5 for radio/navigation inaccuracies.

  • Happy with JEEP - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Former Nissan Altima owner for many years. I decided to finally get an SUV and couldnt resist the look and feel of the Jeep Grand Cherokee (4.7 v8). Jeep has a great smooth ride with excellent handling. I havent taken if off road as of yet but can tell you it handles well both in highway (65 plus mph) and city driving. Interior is very nice compared to others. Some suggestions - larger glove box & change the center console to something a little more user friendly. I was disappointed within the first week I had to replace a faulty chip (car wouldnt drive) but that can happen with any car. I did have to replace the front brakes at 35k but I hear that is standard with Jeep.

So far the truck is great, has a couple of issues with build quality though. The interior design and layout is great, materials could be better. The door panels and dash for example. Performance is amazing. Gas mileage is what I expected, not much worse than my 5.7 Hemi was. Having some trouble with the exhaust, the pipes are crooked, had it replaced, looked good for 2 days and then crooked again. WHO KNOWS ? Worth the wait, and definitely worth the money.

  • A new JGC Driver - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have never owned a Jeep and have driven just a few but this newJeep Grand Cherokee Limited was on my picks list for SUVs. It has a well cut SUV appearance with a Hemi to back it up without being oversized. Jeep Grand Cherokee has the history of being a great reliable ride and I am told will only improve with the snow. My two young kids love the DVD and the NAV system is a fun gadget that (so far) has got me to various tough to find golf courses without a hitch. The Hemi is a BONUS which makes this ride a lot of fun from the drivers seat. Just realize poor gas mileage is dependent on your youthful right foot. I also feel safe in this vehicle and can see around me with ease. Bottom line: My celebrated SUV pick.

  • Fun to Drive to the Mechanic!!! - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I can tow anything, drive anywhere, and have a blast doing it!!! The truck has looks, power, comfort, options, everything you would need. I wouldnt go near it again. Its a gas guzzler and spent just as much time in the shop as it did on the road. Mainly axle and suspension issues for me. I did drive it hard but I thought thats what the overland was built for. My mistake, didnt mean to use the 4 wheel drive, or drive through that mud, or pull that wrangler/tahoe/land rover out of the sand. My bad!!!

  • old reliable - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought this Jeep used with 98,000 miles on it (4.0L six, 4x4). It had an oil pan leak, had no radio, needed tires, and had a crack in the exhaust. Once those items were addressed, I have to say that this Jeep is more comfortable and easy to drive than the 1992 Cherokee that I had before. My average gas mileage is 18.5, it doesnt burn any oil, and it always starts. The 4 coil suspension makes driving around town and long distance very comfortable on my back.

  • Could be better - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Continual a/c problems. Vehicle lurches at stops. Problem when purchased. Repaired but doing it again. Clunking when coming to a stop. Would not purchase another one.
