Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Fun to Drive! - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Its fun and easy to drive. You have to be a little careful when turning on sharp turns; its not as stable as it could be. Great view of the road and I like the roomy feeling.

I already own a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee and should have known better - I bought a 2002 and wished I could relive the day. This car has had 3 recalls, we cannot get the air conditioning to work (it will not cool) though the manufacturer says it is ok. The transmission locked up and had to be replaced (less than 6 months old), and now the replacement is slipping. Please spend your money elsewhere - this one has been a disaster.

This Jeep screams! The HO engine is an unexpected pleasure at any stop light. Merging onto a highway is a dream. You often forget that you are in a Jeep.

  • I made a huge mistake. - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Iv owned many Toyotas and Hondas. Where dependability/ capability i grew bored of styling. I liked the styling of the Overland 4x4 V8 and gave it a shot. 3 months & realize I made a HUGE mistake. Off road is poor with suspension clunking while decompressing over modest bumps or rocks. Panels inside and outside are popping off. Check engine light on and off with dealer saying speaker issue; LOL. Fuel smell. Remote start will not turn on AC or heat until you enter vehicle. Climate control issues Set at 75+ will always blow heat even if temp is 100, set @ 74- will blow AC cold even it temp is 20 degrees. Liftgate problems, radio/SD issues. Bad to no Service.

Bought the Limited with the 5.7 Ltr hemi (not an option in the Edmunds drop down menu). After owning a 95 and 99, decided to go back to my old friend. So glad I did!

  • This major restyle year was totally hot! - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

A 2000 Jeep was the start of the restyle that turned heads along with mine. Its macho, stylish, powerful, and the full time 4 wheel drive is great for those ski weekends, and perfect for the extremely poor road conditions we face everyday. Those pot holes hardy faze the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Now, the way you maintain your auto is 90% of the equation. Oil and filter changes are done every 3000 to 3500 miles eliminates 90% of problems you will have on any auto. I know folks who ignore the nurturing aspect of ownership and then blame the manufacturer when they break down, because of the owners negligence. My Jeep is running like new after 100,000 miles.

  • My Tank - 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

i bought my jeep with 200k miles and minor suspension problems. engine runs strong. four-wheel drive works great, i have towed people out of deep trails idling along in four-high. Ive also become accustomed to the term its a jeep thing it performs better than a car in that shape should. after some scheduled maintenance along with suspension work it drives solid as a rock. jeep won me over.

  • My Jeep Hates me - 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

When I received this car as a gift, it had 140,000 miles on it. I immediately needed to replace the front and back brakes, which cost over 1,000.00. The transmission then went out around 155,000 miles, and the rebuild cost over 2,000.00. Barely over a year later the transmission went out again and had to be repaired, luckily it was still under warranty. I have spent more on this car than it is worth. Its sad because I LOVE the way this car drives, great acceleration with the V8, and it handles very well for a bulky SUV. Now the power steering needs to be replaced at 177,000 miles. We are good about regular service, but this car will nickle and dime you to death if it has high mileage
