Pros:
  • Stylish and comfortable cabin

  • Distinctive styling affects rear headroom
  • Rough ride in SE trim.

  • Best car I bought so far. - 2013 Hyundai Sonata
    By -

The Hyundai Sonata is exactly what I found for the price I paid. It has an amazing, engine and great power. Its spacious and reliable. I dont know what others people are writing about the bad mpg. When I drive, I get 26 city and 33 on highway. It gives me more mpg than my wifes Camry. But this all depends on how you maintain the car and how you drive it. If you go crazy on the gas pedal and dont do schedule maintenance, of course you are going to eat more gas and get bad mpg. People need to go easy, a Sonata is not a sports car. Overall, the Sonata is a great car that offers more for the money than its competitors. For my next car, I will definitely buy another Hyundai.

The 13 Sonata rang in nearly $2,000 below similar Camry and Accord offerings and after 4,000 miles its a solid thumbs up. Interior materials are upscale with soft-touch surfaces where expected. Although windows are short, the cockpit seems airy enough and visibility remains good fore and aft. Controls are simple, well-placed, easy to operate, legible and have good tactile feel. Most guages are fine, however the speedo shows numerals only in 20 mph increments and the infotainment display is disconcertingly hard to read day and night with fuzzy images on a dim blue background...simliar to a thermostat. All seats are comfortable, and there is plenty of room in back with a spacious trunk.

  • Sonata keeps getting better - 2013 Hyundai Sonata

This is my third Sonata, a 2007, 2010, now a 2013. Each is better than the last. I have the Limited with the 2.0 Turbo. It is as fast as the old muscle cars, but smoother and more conomical. Interior is nicer than in the past, dash layout is good and the instrument panel lighting is very sharp. Seats are comfortable and both front and back are heated. Compared to my V-6 Sonata, Im getting 3 to 4 mpg better milage and with better performance. As for reliability, none of my Sonatas ever needed warranty service. The style is better than cars costing twice as much. Every time I park next to a luxury car, I still prefer the Sonata styling and the high quality of the pain

I don"t know where or how these other drivers are driving, but my experience has been much different. We just got 35 mpg on a road trip of 1600 miles and I never get less than 29 combined. We have a limited version and couldnt be happier. Nice job Hyundai. Wash. state driver

Well, I bought the car about 3 weeks ago and i find it attractive and quite sporty for a 4 cylinder. The ride is smooth, absorbs bumps pretty well but the road noise is a little loud. The interior of the car was mint, well taken care of. All the controls are where you would expect them to be. The screen for this model entertainment system could have been bigger and come with back up assist, but alas no...The blue lights are nice and overall the car has been fun to drive without much fuss. The only thing I did notice was the power steering seems a bit sticky when you turn the wheel, very touchy. I am very satisfied with my purchase and thank Edmunds for the help...

  • I regret the day I considered Hyundai - 2013 Hyundai Sonata

The harshest ride Ive ever experienced from a sedan. Either the suspension is too tight or the Kumho tires are too hard? or both? If youve even owned a small pick-up and experienced the rear end bounce from being too lite, thats what I feel in the Sonata. Ive put 100 pounds of sand in the trunk, deflated the tires to 28 psi, and bought a memory foam seat cushion, and still feel the rear end hop. My only hope is to live with it until January (new tax year) and dump it. At about 100 miles the center console started to rattle.

I bought this car with the popular package which was pretty good with heated front seats, power drivers seat and alloy wheels. (Cant stand hubcaps). I also got the power rear view mirror. Overall, I am satisfied. The one issue I have is that the steering is electronic power and does not have the center detente. Wherever you point it, it goes. So it does not center itself when you let go of the wheel. This is OK when I dont think about it, but has a disconcerting affect if I do. However, for the money, this is a great car. I frequently rent cars for my job, and the Hyundai Sonata has always been a favorite. If you iphone, you will like the options. I prefer playing through bluetooth.

  • Steering Problems! Think before you buy. - 2013 Hyundai Sonata
    By -

Overall, this car is not worth buying. Plagued with rattles and wind noise right off the lot, and more importantly, the steering. The Sonatas steering is entirely too sensitive and requires constant correction on the highway. Dont let the dealer tell you its because it has electric power steering, this is not why something is wrong with the steering. Go drive another car with electric power steering and you will find it to be worlds more comfortable to control than the Sonata. My arm is literally tired from keeping it in a straight line. If you go on a test drive, try staying in the middle of your lane; it is impossible. This steering problem is a safety issue.

  • Main bearings let loose. - 2013 Hyundai Sonata
    By -

Updated my review... I have own multiple vehicles over the years. I average 100 miles a day just going to my office. I also drive that vehicle for my job. I average about 35,000 miles a year. I have never gotten rid of any before 250,000 miles and never had any major issues with any of my previous vehicles. At 103,000 miles in this 2013 Sonata, the main bearing burnt up. Originally I was told my a mechanic that it was the oil pump. (Took it a different place to have the engine replaced.) The engine has been burning oil since 40,000, at 60,000 the engine starting chattering. The transmission has been slipping since 80,000 miles. Ive heard that Hyundais engineering/manufacturing has come a long way, but they still have a long way to go. As soon as I replace the oil pump, its getting traded in for anything but a Hyundai or Kia.
