Pros:
  • Excellent warranty, pleasant highway ride, refined V6 engine, lots of storage space.
Cons:
  • Noisy four-cylinder engine, bland interior design and materials, tight rear-seat legroom, tepid handling.

  • Great Car, Minimal Problems - 2005 Hyundai Sonata

We have put 107,000 miles on this car in four years and it has not given us many problems. The only one it has given us is that the windshield wipers get stuck and you just have to loosen them from the windshield. Other than that this car has given us no problems and has even held up when I had a 2 hour commute (each way) to work each day.

I just bought this car and Im already very impressed with all aspects of it. The price of a comparable Toyota or Nissan runs $2500 to $3500 more, yet the quality appears to be equal to them, You cant beat that. Jaguar styling hues (cool) ,solid feeling on the road, handles and rides great, plentiful amounts of torque and horsepower, yet drives like a more expensive luxury coupe. The engineering, over all quality and body fitment appear to be very high. I know of several Hyundai owners who all have had very positive experiences with their Hyundai vehicles.

I was skeptical about purchasing a less known name car. The car has performed wonderfully and I have experienced no mechanical problems. The Hyundai people are great for roadside service and questions. I do not work for Hyundai, but I truly am impressed with the warranty and ride. The mileage is great. The car gets up those mountain roads with ease. I would buy another one any time.

  • Reliable Used Car at a Low Price - 2005 Hyundai Sonata

I do not own this car, but a family member to whom I recommended it to does, and I do drive it from time to time. Overall, it is a good midsize car. I thas the special edition package that includes heated cloth seats and automatic climate control. Comfort on long drives is fine. The ride is smooth and engine and road noise are well controlled with only an occasional squeak or rattle. The car was purchased with 23k and now has over 40k. Only needed new tires, brakes and belts in addition to regular maintenance, of course. The V- 6 has adequate power, but my much more powerful Azera gets better gas mileage. Overall, a good choice for a reliable used car at a low price.

  • EXCELLENT SEDAN/CAR - 2005 Hyundai Sonata

Purchased a Tucson 4 months ago and loved its performance. Checked out a 2005 Sonata and loved the shape looking more like a Jaguar. Find it very durable, dependable and sophisticated. Would recommend it to all. It looks so sophisticated, yet costs so much less.

  • Great Value - 2005 Hyundai Sonata

After shopping around for a few weeks & a lot of haggling (which I hate) I was able to purchase my Sonata for the Edmunds TMV of $19,015. The car is very comfortable and Im getting 18 mpg city & 26 mpg hwy @ 75-80 mph. The downside. There is too much plastic used. The "chrome" is coming off the interior front passenger plastic door handle. Dealer has ordered a new one. CD player wouldnt eject, or play. Shut the engine off & disc ejected. Alarm went off while driving through a parking lot. I guess the computer corrected those problems as they have not reocurred & are working properly. Having to hold it under 55 mph for the 1st 1200 m. Excess road noise.

  • Extra Cash - 2005 Hyundai Sonata

Car is a great vehicle for highway driving. Very comfortable rides smooth. Suggest 6 cyl motor. No real maintenance problems. ALERT: Save some EXTRA CASH for the 60,000 mile maintenance schedule. At 60,000 miles The Timing Belt must be changed $450 - $500 change spark plugs $350 schedule fluid changes (tran cool oil) $300.

  • Ready for another Hyundai - 2005 Hyundai Sonata

Both the car used with 15,000 mile on it for $14K and have only replaced oil at regular service times. Wife loves it. Opens the sunroof and lets the wind blow through her hair with the stereo turned up loud. Handles great even from the passengers front seat (mine). Some times I even get to drive it if I am lucky. Have a Buick Roadmaster that is going to be traded for a new Sonata maybe an 08 or 09. 30 MPG for the wife ans she has a lead foot. The new v6s have 50 plus HP so I know I will be happy with it and the interior is even nicer and roomier.

  • Love the car - 2005 Hyundai Sonata

When I buy a car, I keep it on average about 9 years, about twice as long as the length of the loan. I will keep this car for at least that long. I like that its body style -sort of Mercedes/Jaguar looking. Glad I got one of the last new 2005s with that body style. The only complaint I have is the paint on the door handles (inside and out) is starting to flake off, especially on the much used drivers door. A small fix, Im sure. I have only had 4 cars in my life (the first 3 were Datsun B210, Mercury Sable, Chevy Lumina -- I kept them for a long time, too). This is by far the all-around best one Ive owned.
