This Year's Model Updates:

The 2002 Sonata receives a new look, a refined suspension and an available automanual transmission. The standard features list is lengthened to include such niceties as remote keyless entry and, on GLS and new-for-2002 LX models, 16-inch wheels. In September 2002, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Sonata's 2.4-liter four-cylinder is now rated for 138 hp, while the V6 is now at 170, the previously advertised 2002 power upgrade (11 horsepower) apparently notwithstanding. To compensate, the company is offering owners (of 2000 models and newer) three options: 10 years of roadside assistance, 6-year/72,000-mile basic warranty coverage or 12-year/120,000-mile powertrain coverage.

Pros:
  • Excellent warranty, stylish sheetmetal, lots of bang for your family-sedan buck.
Cons:
  • Noisy four-cylinder engine, some cheap interior bits.

  • King of Affordable Mid-Size Sedans - 2002 Hyundai Sonata

If you are in the market for an affordable mid-size sedan, look no further than the 2002 Hyundai Sonata GLS. This sedan has it all, from styling to performance to elegance. The car looks like a Jaguar and rides like a dream. The 2.7 liter 181-hp V6 is lively and responsive. Interior is very accommodating for 5 adults and the instrument panel is laid out beautifully. Why pay upwards of $5,000 and more for a Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, or Chevy Impala? You would be wasting your hard-earned money if you did. Plus, the 10-year warranty cannot be outdone.

  • Great Car! - 2002 Hyundai Sonata

We decided to drive this car on a lark. As soon as we got in the car, we fell in love with it. It was so responsive that it seem to just take off with barely a touch on the accelerator. It was a dream to drive, particularly on the highway. A roomy, comfortable, quiet ride is very important to us and this car certainly fit the bill. It also has a nice solid feel on the road. We were just amazed that we could get so much car for such a reasonable price.

  • Great Car for the Price - 2002 Hyundai Sonata

I bought the 6 cylinder model 2 months ago and I very happy with the car. In fact my daughter also bought one. We got all the bells and whistles without paying a outrageous price. The car looks like a Jag and handles great. I was really pleased to have my warranty extended to 6 years and 72000 miles due to their horsepower mix up. Many people have told me the car looks great.

THERE MANY THINGS I CAN SAY ABOUT THIS CAR BUT IM EXTREMLY LIMITED. HYUNDAI HAS COME ALONG WAY SINCE THE 80S AND I THINK THEYVE PUSHED WAY AHEAD OF ALL THE COMPETITION AND HAVE ONE HECK OF A NICE QUALITY VEHICLE TO SELL. EVERYTHING FROM THE COMFORT, STYLE AND CONVIENIENCE ARE ONLY SOME OF THE BEST FEATURES. I THINK IF YOUR IN THE MARKET FOR AN ALTIMA OR ACCORD YOU SHOULD DEFFINETLY CHACK THIS OUT FIRST!

  • Amazed! Wow, what a car! - 2002 Hyundai Sonata

I recently rented the car wasnt supposed to get a Sonata, but the compact I ordered wasnt available. At first I thought, Hyundai... oh no. Boy was I wrong! This little Korean beauty really took my breath away. The ride is plush and responsive, similar to a $40k+ Lexus. The V6 is quite ample and quiet, without tempting a 27-year-old male into a Mario Andretti syndrome. It looks like a Jaguar, minus the hood ornament. I have never bought a new car, but at this price, I cant afford not to. I challenge anyone to find a better all-around car for the buck. I will buy one as soon as I can for now, Im extending my rental another week!

  • Just cant stay home - 2002 Hyundai Sonata

I really took a chance buying a new car on the internet and had never test driven the car, but I havent regretted my decision for one moment. I knew the moment I first sat in the drivers seat that Id made the right choice. Ive since driven 4400 miles in the 6 weeks that Ive owned it and am still looking forward to my next long trip. Just going back and forth to work is not enough. It handles nicely - city and wide-open spaces. I like the style of it, inside and out. Im getting better gas mileage than I expected.

bought the car in january for 17,330 delivered. gls model...only options i didnt get were leather and abs traction control.ruby red...love the car getting 25 mpg hyundai should make the abs/traction control a standard feature, not an option. you gotta see how many people come up to me and ask me, " Soooo, you bought a Hyundai Sonata...how do you like it?" It reminds me of " Im not going first....you go first. Seems some people just wont take the chance. i did a lot of research on a ton of cars. For the buck I felt it was the best bang.

It smells. I thought the their was a fire around the area. The salesperson told me its the car they spray it with a special fluid. I smelled it during the whole test drive. When I parked the car I wanted to test drive another one because I thought perhaps it was just this car in particular. I was so dissappointed and went to another dealership and the same thing happen. I fell so in love with this car after test driving a nissan altima that I bought the Sonata GLS. He told me that the car will stop smelling after 150 miles has been used. Is this true? Have anyone else experienced this?
