Overview & Reviews
The 2002 Sonata receives a new look, a refined suspension and an available automanual transmission. The standard features list is lengthened to include such niceties as remote keyless entry and, on GLS and new-for-2002 LX models, 16-inch wheels. In September 2002, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup -- the Sonata's 2.4-liter four-cylinder is now rated for 138 hp, while the V6 is now at 170, the previously advertised 2002 power upgrade (11 horsepower) apparently notwithstanding. To compensate, the company is offering owners (of 2000 models and newer) three options: 10 years of roadside assistance, 6-year/72,000-mile basic warranty coverage or 12-year/120,000-mile powertrain coverage.
- Excellent warranty, stylish sheetmetal, lots of bang for your family-sedan buck.
- Noisy four-cylinder engine, some cheap interior bits.

A Great Car - 2002 Hyundai Sonata
By Steve Dobbins - June 5 - 3:07 pm103,000 mi as of 6/05. Has been extremely reliable. Looks great inside and outside. Recently had failure in power steering hose. $400.00 incl. labor for a hose? Air bag warning lite on, $1600.00 for an air bag sensor? They have to rip and send out seat because sensor is under upholstery...needs to be sent out to upholsterer. Engineering is said to be brilliant I have a hunch from now on is where the money will really go out because of the "brilliant" engineering of a 10 foot long power steering hose, etc. P.S. When my 11 year old daughter moved the front seat forward the warning light went off. I wonder???

Ill never have ANYTHING ELSE! - 2002 Hyundai Sonata
By Casey - May 30 - 7:02 pmI bought my 2002 Sonata Lx in Sept. of 2002, we have put almost 70K on the car in less then 2 and a half years, we just go everywhere in it! We drive 100 miles a day to work round trip, and love the ride home at the end of each day. And with the 2006 comming to the dealer, You can bet Ill be the first in line to "move up" to the sleek new body.

Second Sonata - 2002 Hyundai Sonata
By dasnubbers - May 7 - 10:00 amJust purchased a new 2002 Sonata GLS V6 and I have to say, its the complete package. Everything we need and nothing we dont. We had traded our 2001 Sonata GLS V6 in for the new one. Just got sick and tired of hearing my wife say "look....theres a new Sonata" The new body style really sets it apart from previous models. We chose pearl white, with the beige interior, its a very pretty car.

The Best Car Ive Ever Owned - 2002 Hyundai Sonata
By manofsteel - April 30 - 8:41 pmWe bought our Sonata shortly after it came out in fall 01. The car has been great. We now have 62,000 miles on it with almost no problems. Would buy a Hyundai again, and will.

Stylish comfortable ride at a great pric - 2002 Hyundai Sonata
By Coloradoskier - March 25 - 10:00 amI bought my 2002 Sonata after doing quite a bit of research and so far I love it. Very smooth and quite ride and very classy design with many features standard. I got a Silver GLS with moonroof. Couldnt find one with abs. Payed $17,200 plus tax. I wanted a six cylinder for accelleration on the mountain passes and Im not disappointed. Was able to easily do 80 going over the passes with power to spare. Others have commented that it looks like a jag, a lexus and a mercedes. Im still in the first thousand miles so time will tell how reliable it will be, but they back it with a great warranty. So far, I love it!

Its a bargain - 2002 Hyundai Sonata
By Cnw - May 30 - 10:00 amI wanted a good vehicle, roomy, and under $17,000. The Sonata fit the bill. Every new vehicle I ever owned went back to the dealer during its forst month of ownership. My dealer saw my vehicle for its first oil change. I love this vehicle. My son has an Elantra and will be trading it in for a new 2003 Tiburon. Does that say something about quality

I cant believe I got all this... - 2002 Hyundai Sonata
By dadscar - May 24 - 10:00 am1100 miles. Ive got the "I cant believe I got all this for such a small price" feeling. GLS is sporty. V6 has plenty of power, makes a beautiful sporty sound when it revs a little higher. 16-inch wheels and Michelins give control and confidence, even in rain. Shiftronic is great fun. 4 wheel disc brakes. CD/tape/AM/FM has great controls, big buttons, and nice sound. Power antenna, heated mirrors, keyless entry, leather wrapped steering wheeel, theater lighting, fog lights. Firm comfortable seats, nice fabric. Powerful A/C. Faux wood is well done. Front doors close with nice thunk.

Great for the Price - 2002 Hyundai Sonata
