  • Stay far, far, far away - 2011 Hyundai Sonata

My husband and I purchased this car in 2014 after his previous Sonata met its end. Lasting almost 300,000 miles without an issue, he wanted another Sonata. We bought the 2011 Sonata used and it was a great car at first. Unfortunately, within the last year, the car has become more of a headache than anything. We have had it at the dealer 4 times in the past year, and its there now. The first time, Hyundai claimed they couldnt find anything wrong and we were sent home. Check engine light came on again within a month, and they figured out something needed to be replaced in the transmission. The third time, the check engine light came on and we also had to replace the starter in the car, with only 60k miles on it. Now the car is in the shop again, and the airbag light is on this time. Thankfully we purchased an extended warranty on the car and it has paid to fix everything thus far. There have been 4 recalls on the car since we purchased it, and its a pain to have to take off work to keep putting the car in the shop. Ive also done research on the air bag issue and apparently it requires a new air bag that costs $1200 and isnt covered by the warranty which is a SAFETY HAZARD that Hyundai isnt doing anything about despite many complaints. I want to sell this car and get something WAY more reliable. This car is a POS. STAY AWAY!

After a week of ownership, the air bag light stayed on (dealership fixed it and said it was a loose connector). After two weeks, the transmission needed to be replaced while driving along, it suddenly downshifted from 6th gear to 4th gear causing the car to suddenly slow down (fortunately there was no one directly behind me as no brake lights come on so they would have had no way of knowing that I was slowing down).

While having our 05 Hyundai Elantra serviced we looked at the new sonata. There was a venetian red 6MT one. After test driving it we traded in our elantra for it. Love it so far.

  • The best sedan for under $25,000 - 2011 Hyundai Sonata

My family has a rule that we will not spend more than $25,000 for a car--new or used. For under 25k, the Sonata 2.0t SE gives you the power of a six with the economy of a four, all of the features you could ask for (including power drivers seat, XM, bluetooth, fog lights, USB connectivity, attractive 18" wheels, etc) in a car that drives like a midsize performance (not quite "sports") sedan but has the interior room of a full-size. As an added bonus, they hold their value well and earned a five-star safety rating across the board.

This is a beautiful car with all of the luxuries of a much expensive car. It is a head turned and we love driving it.

Since I bought my Sonata, I have grown to love it more each day. I used to have "sexy" sports cars in the past, but never have gotten the looks and comments I have about this car. I have gotten on average 34 MPG since I got it 11,800 miles ago. I actually drove from Bangor ME to Sparta NJ on one tank of gas (480 miles). The interior is thoughtfully designed, feels like a fighter cockpit at night, and the XM, GPS and Bluetooth integration is incredible. I dont think you can get more for your money than with this car.

I purchased the 2011 Hyundai Sonata a month ago, and love it! I drove it home via the highway and was shocked to see the I was already getting 27 mpg and the car only had 21 miles on it. The ride is smooth, cabin is quiet and visibility is great. The interior is awesome. You must experience it at night to get the full effect of the blue lights on the dash, steering wheel and window switches. The car is so roomy that for the first few days I kept thinking the door wasnt shut because I was so far away from it, lol. After considering price, warranty, safety, mpg and looks, the 2011 Sonata was a no brainer.

  • Pleasure to Drive - 2011 Hyundai Sonata

We were always a GM family from our parents to us. Buick was our car. For some reason we bought a Toyota Camry in 2007. Very dissatisfied with the Camry. We traded the Camry for a Sonata 2011 and absolutely love it. We drove 200 miles yesterday on the FL turnpike and it drove beautifully with at an average of 33 miles to the gallon. All the other gadgets are awesome.

  • Nice car for the money but watch out - 2011 Hyundai Sonata

This was the second Sonata I purchased this year. I have Sonata SE with Nav/Sunroof and recently purchases a Turbo version. The first Sonata spent 7 days at the shop fixing interior rattles oh well nothing major it happens lets give it another shot. Decided to buy the Turbo big mistake. The car has a suspension/steering issue that causes a constant drift t the left. The dealer and Hyundai are stumped on how to fix it. The car has been back twice for alignments and other assorted "adjustments" problem persist ..This issue has been reported by multiple buyers all complaining about the same drift to the left. All I can say Buyer beware you are warned!
