  • what a pile! - 2011 Hyundai Sonata

what started off as a great looking, good fuel economy and decent performer has morphed into a money pit. this car was purchased new in 2011 and currently has 73k/miles; it has been serviced only at the dealer and highway driven. the cars stereo screen went out about a year ago and since it was over their "select" electronic warranty, i would have to replace it - cost $800 installed. on top of this slap to the face, the new part would have a 1 yr/12k warranty. if the original factory piece went out after 1 year, then why wouldnt the new one? now the shifter doesnt recognize the vehicle is in park all of the time when you park it. not covered & cost over $300 for a non essential part.

  • Very Disappointed by 2011 Hyundai Sonata - 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Bought this Hyundai Sonata (2011 GLS) new. Thought I would try a Hyundai since seeing all the TV ads about their quality. The Ride is hard. Radio FM tuner sound quality is marginal at best. Radio was replaced due to display fading issue(research on web for more details). Having issues with the engine pinging while accelerating. Only 19K miles on engine, and trying to get it fixed at dealer is not going well.

I bought a black Limited edition sonata for 25,200. Limited is fully loaded with everything but navigation. This car floats on the road. The styling is excellent looks like a Mercedes, Lexus,etc.. And I havent driven in those cars but let me tell you.. 1) You dont feel a bump 2) You dont hear the engine...stopped at a light for first time I though engine died, no you really cant hear a thing 3) People really look at this car 4) Quality everywhere is top notch from closing the doors to interior, to under the hood 5) SIMPLE! Everything is logistically placed perfectly!! HANDS DOWN UNBELIEVABLE CAR FOR THE MONEY!!

I just traded in an 07 Cobalt for my Hyundai. I should have bought the Hyundai first! Beautiful car, so much more bang for your buck than any of the GMs or Fords I looked at. I just really like this car, happy to be out of a car with 50k that was falling apart and had constant recalls. Hyundais warranty also cant be beat, and my dealership was great to work with!

This is my first Hyundai. I previously owned a 2003 Inifiniti G35 which I purchased brand new,was paid for and loved! I had a Lexus ES300 before that. Unfortunately my G35 was totaled in a wreck. I did not want to have a $500 car payment again. I was only looking at high end preowned cars and saw reviews on Sonata. Test drove and loved it!It will be interesting to see how my maintenance experience will be compared to Infiniti which was awesome.

  • Regretting Buying This Vehicle - 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Major problems from the start. Navigation/radio total failure. Gear shift stopped working-froze in park. Recently air bag malfunction. Now the engine failed. Burns oil and rod knock with no warning. Need a new engine but Hyundai is initially refusing to back its warranty because I cannot product every oil/filter receipt (sometimes had private mechanic change). Research has led me to an investigation into class action suit for engine failure by Chimicles & Tikellis. Good to know that I am not alone. Hyundai is like the cable company - once you are a customer they dont care. Should have gone with Honda or Toyota and will do so going forward.

  • Is my car a Lemon? - 2011 Hyundai Sonata

I had to take my car for servicing twice for the gear shifter. I put my foot on the brakes and go to put it in gear the shifter get stuck. I have to turn the car off at least 3 times before it gives. First time, I took it to the dealer they could not duplicate the problem so they just adjusted the shifter. It worked for a couple of days then it started again. Next time, they decided to keep my car overnight. They called and told me they experience the same problem. The manufacture told them to replaced the brake chip. That did not fix the problem. They kept my car for week and released my car thinking the problem as fixed. Now, Im experiencing the problem again. Now, they want to replace the shifter.

  • Love it! - 2011 Hyundai Sonata

I went to the dealer to get a free oil change on my 2009 Sonata. While I was waiting I started looking at the 2011s. I instantly fell in love with the new body style and interior. Well, one hour later, I signed the papers. Two hours later I was driving it off the lot! I really loved my 2009, but the 2011 has it beat. What a gorgeous car. It has more standard equipment than the 2009 such as blue tooth, autodim mirror w/ homelink for garage door opener and compass, The radio, blue tooth, trip meter and cruise controls are all on steering wheel. Cloth seats that prevent staining (even oil stains), cargo net in trunk, outside temp. The car runs beautifully. Its a real eye catcher.

  • Expectations More than Met - 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Initially sought out the Genesis but walked away with the Sonata. For the money, theres no comparison. Consider the touch-button start and door locks, bluetooth, integrated IPOD and heated seats front/back.. for a 26k sticker price! Im giddy over the highway mileage. Getting between 36-38 highway averaging 72 mph. In the city, prefer to use the manual transmission shifting option as the auto tends to shift too early and often. Bottom line... I prefer to leave my Mercedes CLK 320 Convertible in the garage and drive the Sonata. Who would have thought? Do not buy a Camry, Accord, Fusion or Malibu without looking at the new Sonata.

Just made a 200 mile trip with my 2011 Sonata GLS auto. I averaged 37.4 mpg on rolling GA back roads. That means periods of 55 mph, lowered to 45 near towns, then 35, and finally 25 by the speed trap. There was a brief period of interstate driving where the gas pedal was put to good use. 80 comes very quickly. The Sonata is not a sports car, but it can move!
