After 108,000 miles car still runs great. the only mechanical problem has been replacing the rotors and pad, and shocks. Overall excellent vehicle.

I have owned the Intrepid with the 3.2 V6. It was an excellent car, never any problems, always ran like a champ. I know people say this car has a bad engine. Thats only if you get the 2.7, so if you go with the 3.2 or 3.5 youll be fine. My Intrepid was a great car up until a couple of days ago. I had gotten into a small car accident where the front end went up the SUV in front of me. My passenger and I and the other cars were all fine. However the Intrepid is toast. It still runs and all but needs a new front end and radiator. I plan on buying an Intrepid that has a 2.7 engine that has failed and swapping it with mine.

I bought a 99 Intrepid SE in Oct 99. With 60000 miles on it, all window switches and regulators have been replaced at least once, the main computer 4 times, electric fuel pump, speakers, brake computer module, radiator hoses. Very Poor Quality

i purchased this car used with 16000 miles. It was for taking the kids to school, a 10 mile trip daily .I did go from TN to FL once and the fuel mileage was not as expected. I added Chrysler alloy wheels and the nose and deck spoiler like comes on the later RT models. I only have 43,000 miles on it now. I went to trade it for a new Caliber dodge and the dealer offered only $1600.00 trade-in! The Dodge dealer stated that the motors in these cars are bad. My car runs and looks new. We kept the Dodge for a back-up vehicle for my soon to be a driver teen son. No major defects. 2 recalls. One speed sensor and oil change. Brakes, rotor

Good car, no major problems. Im about 63" so the size is a plus. I can strech out and drive comfortably. Decent power. I like the stock rims. In town gas mileage is low, but I have a heavy foot. Good highway mileage for its size. It does unbelivably amazing in snow and ice so long as you dont go too fast. It will go anywhere on slick roads without sliding! But if you try to take off fast on snow, wet, or even slightly wet roads, you will not move, just spin tires like crazy. My A/C went out so it is hot in the summer. I had some problems with the power windows but they all work now and I havent had problems with them for a long time. It has never left me stranded

  • Sorry to see it go - 1999 Dodge Intrepid

I bought the Intrepid off lease at 17,000 miles. Yes I went through the warranty window motors, big deal. The 2.7 engine NEVER gave me any trouble. The car handled well, I loved driving it. I finally had to trade it off after 115,000 miles. Its TERRIBLE driving on gravel roads. If you live in the country dont buy it, the fan fills up with mud and it takes hours to clean up. Its too close to the ground and it leaks dust in the car.

  • Awesome, reliable car! - 1999 Dodge Intrepid

We bought our Intrepid with 113k miles and it now has 144k and is still going strong. A very comfortable trip car, with no problems at all. Just stay up with the oil changes!

  • Mine has been great - 1999 Dodge Intrepid

I bought my ES 3.2L new in May 99. Weve had it for a little over 6 years now and just recently had to replace a transmission speed sensor. That is the only non-scheduled maintenance in 6 years! Guess I got a good one. We had it in Europe for 4 years and this thing will cruise the autobahn all day at 100 MPH with no problem. It really has been an exceptional family car for us.

  • Valuable advice - 1999 Dodge Intrepid

I bought my Dodge Intrepid used a few years ago. I loved it despite the window problems I had initially. It was very comfortable to drive and a fun car in general. But then one thing broke down after another and they were all major concerns. My transmission has died costing $2,000 plus the speed sensors and other problems you can find online very easily. The oil system is also a major concern in most models because it was designed very poorly. Although this car seems great at first - try asking repair people their opinions on this car. Youll get a good laugh. Although my family members are employed by Chrysler, after this experience, I will never ever buy a Chrysler/Dodge product again!

  • Known engine problem - 1999 Dodge Intrepid
    By -

I always enjoyed the car. It was comfortable, roomy, and the 2.7L is economical. It was reliable in Chicago winters, and only had minor repairs. At 70,000 miles it threw a rod. Dodge wants $6300 for a new engine. Turns out small oil ports sludge up and kill the engine. Dodge says the problem is poor maintenance, but dealer changed the oil every 4-5,000 miles without warning me that 4-5,000 mile changes are only good on the Hondas, Toyotas, Volvos & Pontiacs on which weve put 125-150,000 miles each in the last 20 years. Who knew? Oh - wait - Chrysler did. If youve got one, find out what you can do to de-sludge it, or trade it in by 50,000 miles.
