This Year's Model Updates:

Toyota now offers a slightly decontented "standard" Prius model that lacks cruise control and heated mirrors but in exchange has a significantly lower base price.

Pros:
  • Outstanding fuel economy, low emissions, generous amount of interior space, easy to maneuver in tight spaces, space-age interior design, a lower price for 2008.
Cons:
  • Less powerful and agile than other midsize sedans, a few disappointing interior plastics.

This is the first auto Ive owned that I feel joy every time I get in it. It is also very driver oriented with a complete LCD readout available at all times for : audio, climate, GPA, BLuetooth cell phone, volume of CD;s and aux music player (iPod, iPhone, etc). Things I have come to love: #1 keyless entry and use; steering wheel control (front/back), wiper, cruise, lights stalks. It is the driver designed (instead of engineer designed), e.g., all things to make driving & safety first and foremost--and gas mileage is superb and the constant LCD readout gasoline consumption is not only informative but allows the driver to see, real time, how driving behaviors affect MPG.

I traded a 2005 Avalon for this car. A bit apprehensive at first, not anymore. My second car is a 2007 Corvette and my wife and I fight for who gets the Prius. I am 62 230 and have adequate room, total volume is more than adequate. Gas mileage after 3000+ is over 50 best was 57.3 worst 43.8 (was driving it like my vette... fast). Mostly highway driving, very smooth surprising power. We are educating ourselves how to get good mileage with the consumption readout. This car is FUN to drive, fun to own, safe with all the safety features, helps the environment by reducing emissions and fuel useage. We figure in 2 years it will pay for itself. Recently we sold our 3rd vechile 2005 tundra. *smiles*

My goal of purchase: 10 years of ownership same or better than non-hybrid and I save >1/2 CO2, then it is a good purchase. And this car does just that, and then some. Its fun to drive (as intended, not in the same sense as BMW) and as practical as any family sedan of its size. I kept up with V8 cars to snow trip without degrading MPG. I drove up Grapevine, CA, full load full blast of air with the same MPG. I got 47mpg for ~12000 miles of driving. No problem todate. Toyota has met design goal: practical green family car.

  • A very well designed vehicle. - 2008 Toyota Prius

The Prius is a very well engineered vehicle. I particularly like the field of view accompanied with the captains seats make it almost like driving a bus or van. We like the performance, gas mileage, road handling, and all around comfort. This is one of the best car buying decisions my wife and I have made. We took the Prius on a round trip 969 miles and performed well, has plenty of power, and averaged 45.8 mpg. The dealer asked us if we wanted to trade it back in, the answer is a resounding no.

I have had this car for over a month now and find it most enjoyable driving and learning about all of its features. I promise to revisit this website a year from now and post a year-end assessment of the car. I expect to put about 15000 miles on it.

  • Much More Than I Expected - 2008 Toyota Prius

My new Prius is now two weeks old and has 700 miles on it. What a great car! Incredibly quiet, even when the gas engine kicks in. I am already getting over 50 MPG with a car that has plenty of zip when you want it. I am most impressed with the interior room and the seamless operation of the power train. The CVT is very smooth and quiet in its operation. After reading other reviews I was concerned the seats might be uncomfortable but have not found this to be the case. Very good back support. My wife feels the ride is choppy compared to the Chrysler van we have been driving but under most road conditions it is fine. I must admit I am finding excuses to go places in it!

Test drove this car on a lark after lunch after planning to purchase a Pontiac G6. The G6 might be more sporty looking but doesnt drive as well and gets half the mpg. I really wanted to wait to make a purchase, but my wife loved it so much we bought it immediately. The Prius has plenty of get up and go and will seat 4 adults comfortably. Our mileage has been in the 50s with every tank of gas so far.

  • Excellent Car with Great Technology! - 2008 Toyota Prius

I drive 100 miles a day, and I love watching to see what I am getting for MPG as I go. I also love all the high tech features that this car came with. I considered the Audi A3 first (I wanted a hatchback) but to get all the options I have now in the Audi I would have had to have spent $10K more. Not worth it for a little more wow factor and fun driving. I also love feeling so green.

Owned Honda 2000, very disappointed in fuel economy. Researched hybrid, even though honda had a hybrid didnt like the fact back seat did not go down. Toyota prius has it, 3 weeks so far great, 50+ mpg even with the mountains we have around here, wish it had lumbar support, other than that needs no improvement.

What a cutie-pie!! I was going for a new CR-V but the Prius was the same price. It totes my upright bass + banjo, guitar, etc., as needed. 51- 53 mpg with no special effort, very cool. Try it, youll like it! Package 5 works well.
