Overview & Reviews
Toyota now offers a slightly decontented "standard" Prius model that lacks cruise control and heated mirrors but in exchange has a significantly lower base price.
- Outstanding fuel economy, low emissions, generous amount of interior space, easy to maneuver in tight spaces, space-age interior design, a lower price for 2008.
- Less powerful and agile than other midsize sedans, a few disappointing interior plastics.

avoid prius!!! - 2008 Toyota Prius
By poorvic2 - January 8 - 3:54 amUnless you are Bill Gates with very deep pockets i strongly advise avoiding a Prius. They are overpriced, do not get the gas mileage claimed and, worse of all, have the same build quality as a Yugo! I dont know where all the positive comments are from by my experience with a 2008 prius has been nothing short of a disaster. Ignition battery went out in less than 2 mnoths. Cost 200. to replace. Water pump failed and warning light did not come on. Computer had failed and repair of 1000.00 added to my cost of running this junk. Mileage? less than 60.000 miles!! Come on a Ford Pinto would have run longer than that. Well, i learned by lesson no more overpriced Toyotas!

Does everyone here only drive downhill? - 2008 Toyota Prius
By Mitch - August 2 - 3:03 pmNot sure how anyone here is getting these crazy gas mileage numbers. I havent even hit 40 MPG. I have even given up my lead foot and try to keep it at or below 70 on the freeway which is about 15-20 mph less than Im used to driving. The ride is adequate for a small car, but that rear window split design is not getting easier to accept even with time. I just dont see how I can possibly increase the mileage to justify the cost of a car like this. At least in my case, I should have bought a cheap car like a Corolla or Civic getting 32 mpg or just go back to my much better performing and useful Pathfinder and just suck it up... literally. Maybe Ill sell both and buy the Lexus GS450h!!!

Junk - 2008 Toyota Prius
By jeric - November 18 - 4:40 pmIve had this car for about 5 months now and it is really a piece of junk. It does get very good mileage when it isnt having transmission problems at 8,000 miles. I thought Toyotas were supposed to be reliable... not the case on this one. Two transmissions later... Im trading this beast in and buying a dodge caliber next week. The Prius is what I waited months to get.. what a joke.

Wipers and power points - 2008 Toyota Prius
By jtjtruth - May 16 - 9:53 amFor the most part the Prius is a good vehicle. The most annoying thing is the Wiper control and placement. It is to easy to hit and start a real circus of front and rear wipers. Secondly with a vehicle that is one big battery, Why was it designed to kill the power to the power charge points when the vehicle is off. This is completely illogical and quite annoying in todays use of so many required electronics.
