Overview & Reviews
Toyota now offers a slightly decontented "standard" Prius model that lacks cruise control and heated mirrors but in exchange has a significantly lower base price.
- Outstanding fuel economy, low emissions, generous amount of interior space, easy to maneuver in tight spaces, space-age interior design, a lower price for 2008.
- Less powerful and agile than other midsize sedans, a few disappointing interior plastics.

Prius Forever - 2008 Toyota Prius
By DCraig - August 26 - 1:43 amI have been a proud Prius owner for two weeks and I can honestly say this is the best car I have ever owned. I love the way you can monitor how your car is utilizing its energy. I still need some work with my city driving since Im "only" getting 42.0 mpg vs 48.0 for mixed/highway. Its also quiet and fun to drive. With gas prices over $4.00 a gallon in CA, I dont understand why anyone would buy any other car. My husband is now shopping around for his own Prius.

I love my Prius - 2008 Toyota Prius
By Nancy - August 26 - 12:26 amI have owned my 2008 Prius for a year. I sold an E class Mercedes to do this so I was committed to a "greener" car. I like everything about it except that it "slips" going uphill in the rain. I live in the Pacific Northwest so this is not a good thing. I am going to change the tires and see if that helps. I also had it simply shut down in the middle of a freeway and was interested to read that this has happened to others. I thought I was low on fuel but perhaps there is more to it than I initially thought. I am also curious about the fuel consumption ratings I am seeing for the 2009 models being advertised by Toyota Canada of 72 miles/gallon. Is this true?

2 Years & Going Strong - Prius Love! - 2008 Toyota Prius
By bluegrass in Hogtown - August 23 - 11:23 amWell, hey, its now been 2 full years of ownership, and mighty good ones, at that. Its still toting my Kay upright bass, guitars, banjos, etc., and has even survived a pole smack, although not without my spending some time in a rental while body work was done (beautifully) and an EXPENSIVE little thermos-tank-container-thingy right behind the front bumper was installed TWICE (first replacement was defective, second one is on order). So - dont HIT anything (you would think plastic was cheap - nope!). Anyway, gas mileage & hauling capacity cant be beat. Pain at the pump? Nope! Smile on my face? Yep-you betcha!

My Little Red Prius - 2008 Toyota Prius
By Gordon - August 1 - 12:16 pmDriving the Prius is a pleasure. We have not had any problems with it. It generates a lot of interest with our friends, especially the low gas mileage. Our most expensive trip to the gas station thus far has been $30 even at $4.00/gal. I drive 25 mi each way to work on the freeway. I fill the tank every week and a half. We take the Prius when we go out on the weekends and really feel like we are helping the environment and our budget. We are glad we have this car and that we bought it when we did.

Surprised and having fun - 2008 Toyota Prius
By jdonalds - June 27 - 2:40 pmWe didnt purchase the Prius because of its fuel economy, but that was a factor. We actually selected it because we liked the car best. It looks small from the outside but feels bigger on the inside. This is a new type of driving experience, not just another car. Toyota really put a lot of thought into the technology and features of this car. We purchased package #2 which includes the smart key but not the GPS or blue tooth voice control feature. Quiet ride, great radio, nice features all around.

A wonderful hybrid - 2008 Toyota Prius
By priuslover - May 20 - 12:56 pmI have had my Prius for just under 3 months now. What a totally awesome car!! I am getting between 42-44 mpg. with no effort. I have had to fill it only 2 in 2 months and I use it every day for work. Comfortable drive, fun to drive, with an awesome navigation and bluetooth system with voice recognition. I purchased package #6, Silver Pine Mica.

Good Car - 2008 Toyota Prius
By jt - May 19 - 8:46 amBought the 2008 Toyota Prius with package 3. I love the Prius. Its so fun to play with and so easy to drive. Its a little slow from a dead stop, but it will really get up and go on the highway. The display screen is fun to play with. The seats are comfy for being a car. If youre over 60" you will fit just fine. I am 64" and i fit perfect. I can fit in the back comfortably with the front seats all the way back as well. I spent $30 to fill up. I used to have a cummins diesel and it took me $100 to fill up and I could only get about 400 miles off a 35 gallon tank. Now I am getting 500 miles off only 10 gallons!

Re-Review Of 08 Prius - 2008 Toyota Prius
By oldcoach - April 28 - 10:53 pmI am writing a re-review because this car is just super. Our Prius is with packages and option #2. Option #2 makes it one great car. We have driven it for a week and have over 300 miles on it and are getting 49.6 MPG, without trying, just driving. The no key system is great. Stereo sounds great. Like the back-up camera (but car is not that hard to see out of) really like the energy useage screen. The Prius is so high tech all on touch screen and also on steering wheel. Very easy to operate, only takes a couple of times driving and you are set. Just wish I could get my wife out of the prius so I can drive it. HaHa

Amazing Prius - 2008 Toyota Prius
By 4ecofriends - April 18 - 3:56 amJust to report back that after 15,512 miles, 325.92 gallons of gas later (47.59 mpg), I still love this car. The car reports 48.86 mpg, slightly optimistic than what Ive been getting. There is no problem to date. I took it to dealer once for oil change at 5K and have been doing it myself since. I will buy the plug-in version with Lithium-ion battery when it come out. This car is not perfect, but come close.
