Overview & Reviews
Toyota now offers a slightly decontented "standard" Prius model that lacks cruise control and heated mirrors but in exchange has a significantly lower base price.
- Outstanding fuel economy, low emissions, generous amount of interior space, easy to maneuver in tight spaces, space-age interior design, a lower price for 2008.
- Less powerful and agile than other midsize sedans, a few disappointing interior plastics.

Car Dies in Snow and on Highway - 2008 Toyota Prius
By Cathie - November 4 - 12:33 pmPeople are going to get killed in snow. Ive been stuck twice where both once you go into a skid you have no power to get out of it. It took me 45 minutes to get up a small hill once I skidded. The car loses all power. actually had a cop behind me as I tried to get my car moving so I wouldnt get hit. Dealer said Toyota made it so you cant shut off the Vehicle control Stability for SAFETY REASONS HA! This is dangerous. Ive also had 2 incidents on back to back weekends where my car hesitates, the dash board lights go on and I lose all power. This happened 3 times on the highway and 2x on back road same night. This is a dangerous car and I will be getting rid of it once it is fixed.

2008 Prius, package 4 - 2008 Toyota Prius
By hilary Stellmach - August 24 - 10:26 pmBought our car one month ago. Quiet, responsive, and fun to drive. First gas fill 41.2 mpg, second fill 43.7 mpg (both hand calculated). Friends are impressed with the room inside this car. When someone reports bad acceleration with their Prius, I wonder what they expect. I can pull into heavy traffic on the freeway, and have no trouble accelerating. Ive hauled dirt in the back (plastic tub) and concrete blocks. It is a good all around vehicle. Wish I could put a trailer hitch on the back. Our second Toyota, probably not our last. (still have my GMC diesel pickup) for pulling the boat and camper. Would not be afraid to travel cross country in this car. One fine car.

Not Too Shabby - 2008 Toyota Prius
By Stillc - July 7 - 4:06 amI commute 100 miles a day so my motivation was economy. Theres no doubt the Prius delivers great mileage. I average 48 MPG or better. I traded-in a F-250 Diesel Pick Up truck for this car and was lucky to do so just prior to the big fuel crisis. The Prius saved me about $500.00 per month in fuel cost based on what I was paying for diesel. Im not crazy about the style (looks like a bug) but it has plenty of head room and can carry more than expected in the hatch back with the seats folded down. Power is so so. Very slow to start off but will kick in and move fairly quickly once your rolling. Its all about fuel efficiency. I have to admit though, it can be a little emasculating.

Prius 08 - 2008 Toyota Prius
By scott c - April 30 - 11:16 amIve had my Prius for just over 3 months now. Its a great car! Its not going to win any races, but thats not why I bought it. Its does not handle like a BMW, but thats not why I bought it. Its comfortable for me to drive, I like the features (Bluetooth, nav + little extras you get) and its great on gas mileage. Its not going to be for everyone, but its the right car for me at this point in my life - just over 50! Want a practical car, the the Prius - but know the limitations before you buy - else you may be unhappy.

Happy Owner - 2008 Toyota Prius
By BillTrail - April 3 - 2:43 amCompared to my new 06 Honda Civic Hybrid my new 08 Pkg 2 Prius is wonderful. I dumped the 06 HCH after just 5 months Ive had this Toyota now 6 months and 19,000 miles. Handles like a real car while the Civic didnt. The Prius is a great all-around solid and upright car. Fuzzy beige cloth gets nasty if you drive a lot like me. Overall, kudos to Toyota. I get 43 mpg at 80 mph freeway speeds and 59 to 61mpg running it at 55 mph on state highways with 48 mpg overall avg so far.

White Elephant - 2008 Toyota Prius
By Sanjeev Gupta - February 18 - 3:20 amGood vehicle. Comfortable driving but defeats the purpose of buying it. Mileage 49 for the first year, 46 for the second year, 44 in this third year. Recommended Tires very expensive ($108 against $60 for regular one), headlight HID bulbs burn out fast- Ultra expensive ($771.43 +Tax). Car can only be serviced at dealership and they charge a lot more than a regular service at Walmart. I do not see any savings.

GREAT LITTLE CAR - 2008 Toyota Prius
By GF - July 10 - 6:56 amI only had to wait 2 weeks for my Prius. The gas mileage is the obvious reason you buy this car but you will be pleased find out its not just some cheap economy car. Its roomy inside and has lots of cool features. When I first got the car, I was averaging 47 mpg. Now, with the help of a few websites, I am actually learning how to drive the car and achieve better results. On my last tank, I got 54 mpg. Buy this car if you can find one. You wont regret it.

Fuel Economy? - 2008 Toyota Prius
By wd - February 14 - 3:23 pmIt is what it is, fuel efficient, not pretty, reliable, roomy for an econo box, and echo friendly. Ive slowed my driving pace substantially from the past and Im playing the "computer get the mileage up" game, but getting 39 MPG. Not complaining, but how others are getting over 45 MPG is hard to believe. I wouldnt want to drive in line behind them.

Super mileage, but no fun to drive - 2008 Toyota Prius
By Sabine Cordes - February 3 - 9:23 amOur mileage (5,700 miles) is 38.7 mpg compared to 20 mpg with our BMW which it replaced. Excellent. But no fun to drive; the indifferent imprecise steering feels like a 70ties car, and it accelerates very slowly in the beginning. Once it moves, it is okay.
