Overview & Reviews
For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.
- Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
- Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

Worse car Ive ever owned - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Rangita - November 25 - 9:23 amI just sold mine at carmax. My Prius started to fall apart after two years and 55000 miles on it. The engine is great but the body part is the worst one you can have. Mine was loaded with full options because I was thinking its going to be our family car but I started to have problems after 18 months of use. Im glad to get rid of it.

Toyota Prius The Car of This Century - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Widdletink - November 3 - 9:36 pmYou have all heard about the great fuel economy, but that is not the reason to buy this car. The innovative, intelligent, user friendly design. The unique look, the ease of driveabilty. The turns-on-a-dime handling. The trailblazing technology displyaed inside and out. And, the just plain fun this car returns to driving are the reasons to buy a Prius.I now look forward to being in my car. I feel the thrill I had the first time I ever got behind the wheel of a vehicle everytime I drive this car. The message it sends to the world that I am smart, environmentally responsible and cool are good too. And 50MPG in the real world doesnt hurt either! I LOVE my Prius!

BEST CAR I EVER OWNED - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Russ - November 2 - 9:33 amWhat can I say? This is absolutely the best car I have ever owned. After 78000+ miles we will be trading for a new 2010 next week. The trade in value makes it possible to get a new model for almost half price. We have enjoyed many trips in our Prius and had fun playing with beating our mileage. Our best was 610 miles on one tank full. (about 11 gal as we still had some left). I never new how much cargo a hatch back could hold until we loaded up our Prius, because of the ability to lay the seats flat, I can haul almost as much as my other car an SUV.

Great Car...Prius - 2005 Toyota Prius
By new prius owner - October 17 - 11:53 pmHave had my Prius for a month and a half. Great ride after the learning curve. This has got to be the wave of the future. Right around 47-48 miles per gallon so far (new car and winter driving).

My best car ever! - 2005 Toyota Prius
By merriama - October 11 - 5:50 amIve owned eight (8) vehicles during my driving lifetime, and this car tops them all. Driving my Toyota Prius is a true pleasure. Its comfortable, pretty, and energy efficient. Because I want to maximize my MPG, Im more conscious of staying within the speed limit. I also enjoy knowing that in a small way, driving this hybrid has a more positive impact on the environment than a regular gas fueled vehicle.

Excellent Gas Mileage and what features! - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Carlos Shepherd - September 26 - 9:56 pmWhen I got the fully loaded Prius (2005) I had trouble keeping my eyes on the road as I drove this baby home! So much eye candy! The Navigational System is awesome and the 9 speaker, 6 CD in dash player simply ROCKS! I commute to work 60 miles one way, (120 round trip) and driving this state of the art machine makes my commute a whole lot easier!

Great Car in the Snow - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Jane A - September 18 - 2:33 pmThis has been a great car for me in Alaska. Of course, I upgraded from a 1991 Toyota Corolla All Trac with 180,000 miles on it so it is really hard to say how it would compare to any other new vehicle. It handles very well in the snow with the steering stabilizing (or whatever it is called) option. I have some troubles going up snowy/icy hills though. The car just shuts off. Last winter I had it in a carport in Anchorage and it did fine. This winter I have moved to the much colder interior and really need a garage for the vehicle when it dips down below 20 below 0. It is really comfortable to drive and the gas mileage is great. During the winter I am averaging about 35-39 mpg.
