This Year's Model Updates:

The Toyota 4Runner has revised exterior styling for 2006, highlighted by new bumpers, lamps, grille and lower cladding. There are also new 18-inch alloy wheels for the Limited model and a new roof rack and tube steps for the Sport Edition. Toyota has also thickened the 4Runner's windshield and front window glass for reduced wind noise. In terms of new standard features, there's now an auxiliary audio jack for portable devices and power seating for the Sport and SR5 V8, and a seat memory feature and a six-disc CD changer for the Limited.

Pros:
  • Powerful engine lineup, well-mannered on pavement, above-average off-road capability, comfortable and well-trimmed cabin, long list of standard equipment.

  • ABSOLUTELY NO REGRETS!! - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

I looked at the Honda Pilot, Ford Explorer, used Acura MDXs, and a few sedans. Then I waited to see what changes were to be made to the 2006 4Runner. Although relatively subtle changes were made, it was enough to sell me. I am very pleased with my 4Runner!

My daughter drove an older one and was hit by a speeding car running a light. Her 4runner sacrificed its own life to preserve hers, she was shook up but unhurt. My bosses daughter rolled one off an embankment from an icy road. She was shook up but unhurt. He was so happy he went out and bought her a brand new one. I know the accident reviews are good for this truck, but we believe they are way understated. We believe it to be one of the safest in the world today. This high quality full frame, (not unibody) truck is one of the few true off road vehicles left. With its low range gearing and its "positive 4 wheel lock" it is a stand out in a crowd of crossovers and halfway vehicles.

This rig has lived up to the Toyota tradition, but there are a couple of niggling annoyances. At 20K miles when I make a turn there is a creak that comes from the back. My friends call this car the squawkwagon due to the fact that the rear assist warning siren comes on and stays on whenever the car is in reverse. Im used to it but it really gets on passengers nerves. The dealership cant fix it either. Also I added a Westin Sportmaster grille guard and it looks sharp!

  • Well engineered - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

A very well engineered vehichle. Attractive outside and inside, comfortable, sensible controls, lots of space, cupholders. Easy to flip down rear seats for cargo space, put them back up for passengers. With the windows closed, the most quiet vehichle Ive ever owned. Very relaxing on long highway drives. Peppy acceleration. Excellent off road performance, and surprisingly smooth on rough terrain. My quibbles: front passenger seat has only 4 way controls instead of 6, and no lumbar support -- why shouldnt I have same adjustments when wife drives as when I do? In daylight when Im wearing sunglasses, hard to read clock. Responsive handling, but on curvy highways you dont want to push it.

  • Toyota Works for CO - 2006 Toyota 4Runner

There are many reasons to live in Colorado, and also many reasons to own a Toyota. The reasons for both are dangerously similar - a good vehicle is needed for the winter driving, the summer camping trips and the daily grind of commuting in the city. The 4Runner makes all of these a breeze. It combines clean style, good gas mileage, high ground clearance, good storage and Toyotas reliable engine and low maintenace. On a recent trip to Yellowstone, I placed a futon matress in the back and saved on hotels. As for the ride, the V8 has great power. An MP3 plug-in makes it easy to pull songs off your iPod without messy adaptors, and the close to 20 miles a gallon is great for a V8 SUV.
