Fun to drive - 1999 Toyota 4Runner
By Trisha424 - April 13 - 7:23 pmThis is the best car I have EVER owned. I love it. Its all around great car. Its extremely reliable & dependable. I just wish the rear seats had air conditioning instead of heat. I live in Arizona so air condition is more of a necessity.

Great truck! - 1999 Toyota 4Runner
By John O. - April 2 - 2:10 amThis is my second 4Runner, and again Im not disappointed. Like my first (a 1997) it is a bit underpowered. Outside of that I have no complaints! I still get compliments even though it is 11 years old. The vehicle is fun to drive, handles great in all weather, and even 11 years old there is no squeaks, rattles, or wind noise. Michigan is known to use excessive salt, and yet the only rust on the vehicle is on the trailer hitch. Mine doesnt have many miles (69,000) as of this writing, but the ONLY things replaced so far since new have been one set of tires and a malfunctioning key fob. If you can find a low mileage 4Runner cheap, you wont be disappointed!

Looks and Reliability - 1999 Toyota 4Runner
By tekparasite - February 26 - 10:00 amI bought my 99 4Runner for two reasons: 1) Looks and Reliability. I bought it with 160 miles from a dealership. 115,000 miles later, I am not disappointed. All the maintenance I have done to this truck is change the oil (every 7K miles). I havent had ANY problems with it. This truck was build to last. Engine is solid with respect to reliability.

Top Performer SUV - 1999 Toyota 4Runner
By Trekker - February 19 - 10:00 amI bought this 4-Runner used in 2003, and a year later, not a single problem with it. Very comfortable and I feel safe in it. Lots of room and great classic look of the 4-Runner. The only thing I have issues with is the engine is too weak for the SUVs heavy load.

Auto Hall of Fame! - 1999 Toyota 4Runner
By Barbara - February 6 - 6:03 amThis is the BEST car I have ever owned. Purchased it new in 1999. Never had any problem with the engine or transmission. I change the oil approximately every 10,000 to 20,000. I use synthetic Castrol, since day one. Replaced timing belt around 200,000. Almost time for another one. Ive owned many cars through the years but this one is outstanding!

1999 4Runner Limited 4WD - 1999 Toyota 4Runner
By runnerxa - December 26 - 5:50 pmGreat vehicle if you like the outdoor lifestyle. I love driving with all the windows and sunroof open. Feels like a Jeep but without the noise and rides much better. The V6 engine is weak once you start to load up the vehicle. Although it does have great off the line torque. The ride is truck-like but I am happy with it. The reliability and build quality is quite good. As long as you keep a good maintenance, this vehicle will practically run forever. Lots of aftermarket upgrades for the vehicle. I end up adding a TRD supercharger, URD fuel mods, Doug Thorley header, TRD exhaust, IPT valve body upgrade, 32" A/T tires, Bilstein shocks, and offroad armor. Overall, it is a very capable vehicle.

Bulletproof - 1999 Toyota 4Runner
By texas cagematch - November 11 - 2:00 pmBought 7 years ago with 118k from a wholesaler. It now has 172k and still drives almost as good as new. Had to replace air conditioner at about 150k mi. for $1,000. The power antenna stopped working ($150 fix). The paint is very good, cloth interior is very durable, never any leak of any kind, I paid $9,500 for it 7 years ago and its still worth $6-7k. Are you kidding me? When I detail it - it literally looks brand new. Decent gas mileage for an SUV, 17 hwy. Still got at least another 100k left in it. Best SUV ever built.

Alternative Fuel? - 1999 Toyota 4Runner
By Scotch - November 11 - 10:00 amBought my 4Runner Saturday, and have been looking for excuses to run around town since. But am very nervous after watching the gas gauge. Right now Im estimating 12.5 mpg. Has anyone been keeping tabs on their gas mileage? I want to know if this is of the norm, or need to get it checked out. I know its an SUV, but reports rate it at 19/21 mpg.
