Overview & Reviews
The 2010 Subaru Outback has been fully redesigned. Changes include more interior room, more dramatic styling and new features.
- Spacious interior, crossover-besting cargo space, comfortable ride, simple controls on lower trims, commendable off-road performance for a wagon.
- Lacks agility, numb-on-center steering, awkward styling.

The engine can shut off while turning - 2010 Subaru Outback
By Delta - June 4 - 2:26 amI bought this after driving a 1999 Forester for 10 years. We also have a 2005 Outback in the family. I initially like that this Outback is bigger, but quickly found that it is clunkier to shift and does not have the pick-up or power I could feel in my old Forester. Also, the trunk/hatch door is unnecessarily heavy and a pain to open and close. There have been two recalls necessitating trips back to the dealer for fixes. Now, after having the engine just cut off during turns several times, I have learned from my dealership that theyve seen this with 2010 Outbacks. Engines can just shut off while driving! Seriously dangerous and the recall for this has not yet been written.

I finally got one! - 2010 Subaru Outback
By tennisbum - April 22 - 8:56 amMy 96 Outback was superb for its time but was underpowered without a turbo. The new 3.6 engine and 5 speed auto are perfectly matched to deliver seamless power. The new design is superb and still retains the Subaru qualities we valued in past models. I only have a few hundred miles so far but really enjoy driving it every day.

I am in love!!! - 2010 Subaru Outback
By kf - April 10 - 3:26 amTurned in a leased Jeep Grand Cherokee, but still wanted AWD, room for 2 kids and 2 dogs. Well I got it and so much more! Added leather to the Premium model, well worth it. Seats are beyond comfortable and interior is so spacious. My 2 kids, both in carseats, are not kicking the back of the seats. The new larger body style is perfect. So fun, peppy and comfortable to drive and I cannot believe gas mileage, especially compared to previous vehicle. My car is as quiet as a whisper, I love the dash layout and can read every inch of it w/o a problem. So glad I waited for new body style, people doing "double takes".

1 week / 1-1/2 tanks of gas - Loving it - 2010 Subaru Outback
By DRL - April 4 - 8:56 pmIn just over a week I have driven my new 2.5i just over 700 miles and am thoroughly impressed. The ride is quiet and wonderfully smooth even on rough roads (paved and patched - no offroading yet). The winding country roads where I live are handled with ease. After 30 years of driving a manual transmission, I test drove the CVT and was hooked. Performance is smooth with very quick response. The 2.5L engine wont win any drag races, but it has plenty of power and punch for daily driving and highway merging. All while pulling an amazing combined 29.4MPG (mostly highway, small town and country roads) on the first tank and a half of gas. I am absolutely delighted with the car so far.

All Good - 2010 Subaru Outback
By subie newbie - March 19 - 2:06 pmHave had it about 3 month about 5000 miles. The mileage keeps getting better with every tank full. Started at 28 mpg am now getting 30 mpg with a 30% city 70% highway driving. Been in 3 heavy snows and it handled great. Like everything about looks, comfort, mileage, handling its all good.

First Time Subaru Owner - 2010 Subaru Outback
By John - March 12 - 12:36 pmIve put on 5,000 miles in the first two months and Ive been very happy with the experience. Its comfortable and has a lot of nice commuting features; blue tooth, Sirius radio, all wheel drive, and good gas mileage (27 mpg). Its good in snow but the critical test will be how well it does on the beach this May. Good value for all the features included.

Bought it and Waiting... - 2010 Subaru Outback
By BuzzCT - March 11 - 3:30 pmI saw the new Outback, and was lucky enough to have driven it. I immediately ordered one. It is a HUGE improvement over my 2007! The car feels much roomier, and the seats are infinitely more comfortable. I was amazed at how much power the CVT has with the 2.5 engine. And the fuel economy seems perfect for a car of its size. The 2005 change was big, but this new version is huge: I would imagine theyll be very hard to get at first, since its a great boost for the brand!

Very Happy - 2010 Subaru Outback
By Chris - March 3 - 2:46 amPurchased as Company Car under reimbursement program... love 6 cyl engine, and height off ground. Feel very safe commuting long distances. Purchased for safety factor yet am impressed with comforts like excellent heated cloth seats, and bluetooth ease of use. Also get many comments on look & style... wife just got luxury SUV that costs twice as much yet we seem to drive the Subaru equally as often!

Subaru Unsafe Vehicle - 2010 Subaru Outback
By djhk - February 3 - 4:36 pmTook the new car on a long trip. The cruise control resume creates sudden acceleration, Wide Open Throttle (WOT). The economy indicator drops to lowest reading whenever I encountered a hill. This is an obvious design flaw and shows a lack of attention to detail and safety. What other flaws does this vehicle have?

Theres a LOT of room for improvement! - 2010 Subaru Outback
By westtxlady - January 21 - 5:37 pmIf I had written this review after three months of ownership I would have given it a solid 5 stars, but heres the thing - after you drive it for a while, you start to notice a lot of "little" things that turn out to be pretty darn big. The car stalls at low speeds, especially on inclines, but often on flat surfaces. This is annoying when climbing in a mountainous area or in stop-and-go rush hour traffic - dangerous because when you tell your car to GO! you expect it to go! Took the car to the dealership, described the issue and after a test drive they said that they didnt feel or find the problem that I was talking about. The AC doesnt stay cold and is inadequate for West Texas heat.
