This Year's Model Updates:

Subaru completely redesigns the Impreza and brings a high-performance turbocharged WRX variant into the fold to offer enthusiasts the opportunity to drive a powerful, all-wheel-drive sport sedan without breaking the bank. All Imprezas benefit from improvements in performance, refinement and safety. Along with the Impreza's trip upmarket come revised trim levels consisting of two sedans (WRX and 2.5 RS) and three wagons (WRX, Outback Sport and 2.5 TS Sport Wagon). The coupe body style has been dropped.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel drive, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from.
Cons:
  • No more coupe, extroverted styling may be too much for some.

  • The almighty WRX... - 2002 Subaru Impreza

Here it is: If you want to be driving the fastest, safest, best handling stock car on the road, then get a WRX! I love mine! Its constantly surprising me how powerful it is. Its also incredibly good in snow! I cant really get it to "play" in the snow, though, because the AWD and ABS is always correcting any slides. It is also a great "sleeper" car. That is, not everyone knows they are fast until youve left them far behind you! ;) I would highly recommend one. However, they are only going to get cooler looking in 2004-5 so if youre thinking about waiting, check out Subaru Globals site under the Topics section to see the future WRX beast!! :) Cya!

The WRX is extremely mod-friendly and a little goes a long way. Something as simple as redoing the air intake helps turbo spool-up and smooths out acceleration over the whole power band. I am very impressed with its performance across the board....acceleration, handling, and response are excellent. Front seats are well-bolstered and comfortable. Plenty of cargo room with the rear seats down. AWD is fantastic in the snow. Small annoyances -- lack of useful cupholders (but this is not a car for sippin lattes while you drive!); low-end torque (fixable with mods); and clutch chatter (a known problem); 1st gear synchronizer seems to be "fragile". I think Im spoiled.

What a Car. I looked at the S4, 330xi, and 300is. This car is top of the heap. It takes a while (month or so) to get used to the turbo and lag. But, once you know how to keep the rpms above 3500, hang on. Make sure to put snow tires on stock wheels and buy some 17" or 18" for summer fun. I worked the extra wheels into the deal. The dealer got them from Tire Rack and put snows on the stock wheels. I had to wait 2 weeks, but worth it. I bought my wife a WRX wagon last month. That should say it all.

  • Warp 10 in a wagon! - 2002 Subaru Impreza

Quick and responsive on all surface conditions and all speeds (at least up to 115mph). Unlike other Japanese cars, this car feels very solid. The interior styling is best discribed as spartan and pragmatic. But on weekends, the unmodified WRX can teach many teen streetracers the meaning of "fast and furious".

This is a fun car to drive. Interior controls are all within easy reach. Accelerates to highway speeds rapidly.

  • The best car I have owned - 2002 Subaru Impreza

My previous car was a Honda that went for 400K miles. A hard act to follow. The WRX is a hoot to drive and in wagon form is very practical as a daily driver. The WRXs handling is amazing, especially with 17" rims and high performance tires. Driving this car in the winter gives you a sense of security and safety. To gripe about something, the WRX is very addictive. You get accustomed to what it does. The WRX is so smooth and competent, that it starts to feel slow. Thankfully there is an abundance of aftermarket performance options. I cant recommend the WRX highly enough, unless you are into spending 10K to 15K more for "prestige".

This car is a rocket, a lot of fun to drive, very competant and safe feeling. Cornering is superb, lots of torque across a broad band, great brakes. The optional premium sound system is well worth the extra money. The seats are great, and both my 52" wife and my 63" self are plenty comfortable and can find a good seating position. The optional shifter ups the fun factor. No trips to the dealer, zero warranty issues. Our fear going into it was that the wagon would be too small to haul stuff with, but we have had no problems on trips to the store or longer trips with three adults. Between this car and my motorcycle, any other car I drive is boring.

  • What a pleasant 1st month,,, - 2002 Subaru Impreza

I have had two other turbo 4cyl cars over the years and this one appealed to me. The looks are kinda cool and performance is stellar for a car of its size. I ended up with the stereo upgrade by accident and do not regret it, although it is slow to switch between discs it has very good quality sound. It is a little tight getting into for a 62", 245 pound guy, but seating position and interior room are fine. I felt that the smallish front doors were a little price to pay for the total package. The wagon is about 100 dollars a year more to insure than a Ford Focus, not bad for 100 more horses and lots more car overall.
