This Year's Model Updates:

Subaru completely redesigns the Impreza and brings a high-performance turbocharged WRX variant into the fold to offer enthusiasts the opportunity to drive a powerful, all-wheel-drive sport sedan without breaking the bank. All Imprezas benefit from improvements in performance, refinement and safety. Along with the Impreza's trip upmarket come revised trim levels consisting of two sedans (WRX and 2.5 RS) and three wagons (WRX, Outback Sport and 2.5 TS Sport Wagon). The coupe body style has been dropped.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel drive, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from.
Cons:
  • No more coupe, extroverted styling may be too much for some.

Two Words..... THE BEST!!! Have already "played" with the engine by adding new exhaust from the turbo back, cold air intake, 18" rims, and clear tailights. Went from 227 HP to 324 HP. Cost was under $2,000

Bought this car used with 18K miles on it. The only mechanical fault that I ever experienced was a "Clutch Shudder" problem that was fixed under warranty at 20K miles. The ride is solid, responsive and communicative.

I cannot say enough good about this car. No problems whatsoever, speed enough to thrill, looks and admiration from anyone who knows what it is, you name it. I wanted this car for 10 years from the time the 22B was released in Japan..now I have one.

I traded in my 1998 Subaru Forester S for a new Outback Sport. I was impressed by the improvements made to the engine, particularly with regards to noise and smoothness. The car seems eager to go at any time, and responds happily to even a light touch on the accelerator. The steering is nicely weighted and communicates excellent road feel. The brakes are easy to modulate, allowing you to stop on a dime. I was slightly disappointed by the lack of interior storage spaces, especially compared to the Forester, which had plethora of pockets and compartments in which to store gas receipts, maps, CDs, magazines, etc. But this is a minor quibble. Good job Subaru!

No out of the ordinary maintenance whatsoever. Great in winter and smooth in the summer. Great value and a looker as well.

This car makes me want to drive. I have owned several sports cars in the past, but this wagon has the best overall feel.

This is the car America has been waiting to get, and Subaru finally brought it to the US. 227hp, 217lb-ft of torque in an AWD car with just enough understeer to keep "the sheep" safe, while letting the rest of us have fun (oversteer isnt tough to get, if thats what youre trying to do). The interior is driver-oriented from the seats and shifter to the steering wheel and pedals; even the dash gauges tilt more toward the driver than other cars. This is a true drivers car.

  • The WRX Rocks - 2002 Subaru Impreza

I know youve heard it a million times, but the WRX Rules. Ive bought mine on New Years Eve and have been happy ever since. I can blow just about anyone away, just ask the guy in the new Altima I dusted at 120 on the way to New Orleans this week. OK so reality check, it is a car under 25k. So its not like your driving in luxury, but if you value performance over floating down the highway this car is for you.

VERY fun to drive. Disappointed that the wagon doesnt have the same curves / lines on the body as the sedan. ABS too sensitive. Downshifting usually helps... ABS sucks if youre trying to eat an ice cream cone or something though - really is too sensitive - esp. on bumpy roads. Love the car though.. I guess the one thing I would change (and Ive been putting it off) is the ABS. Still havent found affordable fog light covers either.
