Subaru completely redesigns the Impreza and brings a high-performance turbocharged WRX variant into the fold to offer enthusiasts the opportunity to drive a powerful, all-wheel-drive sport sedan without breaking the bank. All Imprezas benefit from improvements in performance, refinement and safety. Along with the Impreza's trip upmarket come revised trim levels consisting of two sedans (WRX and 2.5 RS) and three wagons (WRX, Outback Sport and 2.5 TS Sport Wagon). The coupe body style has been dropped.

• A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel drive, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from.

• No more coupe, extroverted styling may be too much for some.

  I ordered my WRX from the dealership in 2000 when I first read it would be imported to the states. I have loved driving it for the last eight years, this coming form a former mustang owner. Wasnt quite as fast in a straight line but did everything else well. After owning this car I will NEVER buy a new model in the first year. The windows squeak, paint is too thin, had the defective fuel rail system replaced (twice) and the engine blew at 119K. Still have no idea why. Salvage long block set me back $5500 installed. Now the A/C compressor is about to go. Most of the bugs were worked out by the middle of 2003. Would buy it again, just not in the first build year.

  Ive had this car since June 2001 and its been a blask every day. Only minor downfalls (as you probably already know) are the turbo lag at low RPMs, and a not-so-luxurious interior. But, its comfortable, Ive had no problems, and its the most fun car Ive had the pleasure of driving. For the price its the best you can get.

  Amazing performance car. I have had a few problems with it listed below. Very difficult to shift into first gear-almost always, but especially in the cold. Almost impossible to shift into reverse. Eats oil like crazy (though not leaking) and the dealer does not want to admit that it is a problem. (1 quart every 1,000 miles)

  Quite possibly the best vehicle offered today! The WRX wagon gives you the best of both worlds- high-performance and utility. I can haul anything I want AND I find excuses to drive any- and everywhere. No longer have pizzas delivered cause its an excuse to drive somewhere. The car has a real fun-to-drive vibe. All-wheel-drive and responsive steering inspire confidence to a much greater degree than any other sports car I have driven- and this is a wagon! The turbo comes on strong at 3000 rpm- pushing you back into your seat. It literally feels like a rollercoaster. And just as with rollercoasters, that sudden burst of speed is addictive.

  Ummm.....WOW. Just a complete blast to drive. Only wish is for more low end torque. Its a scream to flatten the accelerator at 3000 revs in the wet (lets pick 2nd gear for this). Tires scrabble for grip, tail gets a little happy if youre not pointed straight. All very controllable, all very fun. Get one!!

  What more could you want in a car? Its so versatile! Lots of power, all wheel drive, space with the wagon, four doors, roof rack, good gas mileage, go anywhere, do anything, beat almost anybody on the road. Smooth pavement, rough pavement, rain, dirt, snow, mud, it doesnt matter. Such a fun car to drive.
