This Year's Model Updates:

Subaru completely redesigns the Impreza and brings a high-performance turbocharged WRX variant into the fold to offer enthusiasts the opportunity to drive a powerful, all-wheel-drive sport sedan without breaking the bank. All Imprezas benefit from improvements in performance, refinement and safety. Along with the Impreza's trip upmarket come revised trim levels consisting of two sedans (WRX and 2.5 RS) and three wagons (WRX, Outback Sport and 2.5 TS Sport Wagon). The coupe body style has been dropped.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel drive, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from.
Cons:
  • No more coupe, extroverted styling may be too much for some.

they had made it a bit more comfy. The interior looks and feels cheap. The cupholders stink! (one lets cups fly out around curves).

6 years, 82k miles and not a dime in it other than gas, oil and tires. Still gets over 30 mpg freeway, around town is a little low due to the AWD, upper teens/low 20s depending on how you drive. Getting 25 on the average tank. Reliable, punchy, AWD is amazing on the snow.

  • Big bang for the buck! - 2002 Subaru Impreza

Goes like a champ in the snow.Handles like a dream.Keep the revs up and the turbo rocks.Yes the front seats are a bit uncomfortable on long drives, but youll love the way they hug you as you throw the car into a tight turn at 60mph.Yes the cup holder sucks.Yes paint quality is average at best.Yes, the clutch does shutter when cold for a bit.And yes it would be nice to have split rear seats (but that makes the care less stiff). If you buy this car thinking it is a luxury automobile, its not.If you want cushy seats, nice cup holders, and a smoother ride get a Caddy and enjoy your early bird special at Dennys with the rest of your demographic.

  • 3rd Outback Sport - 2002 Subaru Impreza

This is my 3rd consecutive Outback Sport. The 2002 is so much improved over my 1997 and 1999 models. Its added more power, CD, map lights, fog lamps, better speaker sound, v/s intermittent wipers front & rear, daytime running lights, alloy wheels, cruise control, and many other small but significant improvements. The automatic transmission shifts very smoothly. Fun to drive car!

  • A bit heavy - 2002 Subaru Impreza

i have an old honda prelude that moves off the line really quick because its really light. WRX is kinda slow off the line, maybe cause of the weight. But when the RPMs are around 3-6k its really fast. I like all of the exterior except for the front lights, I like the JDM ones a lot more. The seats hug me which is good but there should be an adjustable lower lumbar like some other cars, long road trips kill my lower back in the WRX. And everyone knows about the understeer =(. Its still a fun and fast car overall though, cant wait to rally in it!

  • Great Performance-Interior Sucks - 2002 Subaru Impreza
    By -

The engine performance is outstanding, but you pay for this with a low quality interior. No moonroof option available, leather isnt available, the momo steering wheel is great, the carbon fiber nice, but the pedal set only comes for the manual. Only one trim color available. Gauge pack is extra. The keyless entry system is the worst. You cant open the trunk with it, and the security system isnt the greates either. I previously owned a 98 VW Jetta, and Subaru could take a few lessons on the "small" things that make a $25K car nice, you pay for those 227 horses by sacrificing style.

  • Love - Hate - 2002 Subaru Impreza

I love my WRX. The performance that I get (coming from a 4cyl Toyota Pick-up) is amazing. It is truly fun to drive. But, the problems that I have encountered are making want to cut my losses. Trouble down-shifting and putting the vehicle into reverse, tape deck eating tapes, CD player freaking out and causing the stereo to crash much like a computer would, internal trunk latch not working, drivers seat rocking everytime I hit the brakes, and I could go on. I have heard many great things about Subarus, but I got rid of my truck with 190000 miles because I didnt want to spend time with it in the shop. Funny, had the car in the shop more often in 6 mos than had the truck in 6 years.

After owning BMW 3 series sedans for awhile I expected the WRX wagon to be a downgrade. In the fun to drive and performace catagories its been a big upgrade. I love driving this car and I can drive it in the snow. What a bargain.

  • A Lot Of Car For The Money! - 2002 Subaru Impreza
    By -

Recently purchased my WRX from a friend who owned it since 25K. Car now has 91K. Previous owner only did regular service with no other issues. This is the type of vehicle that you have to know what you are buying. It doesnt do anything spectacular but does do everything well. Power is adequate, interior is decent, looks are unique, MPG is good for a performance-based car, parts/service is reasonable, and resale is pretty good if you purchase used. I bought this car mainly for MPG as my other vehicle is an F150. And for $7000 I do not think I could get more car for the money. The car had already been upgraded to 17" wheels so it looks even better. Otherwise the car is completely stock.

  • Great car! - 2002 Subaru Impreza
    By -

I purchased this car in 2003 with 20,000 miles already on it. I beat this car HARD all the way through college and its still kicking. Ive done all my own maintenance... its never been to the dealer. Ive had to replace the brakes (pads & rotors) at 68k, accessory belts at 70k, and a set of tires at 60k. I redline the car every time I drive it...its fun, reliable, and great in the snow!
