This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, the Scion xA gets a mild styling refresh that includes updated designs for the lower air intake, headlamps, taillamps, wheel covers and front grille. Inside, there is new seat fabric and the speedometer background is now white instead of last year's silver. The xA also receives a new steering wheel with audio controls, and the Pioneer audio system has a new head unit design and remote mini-jack port for portable music sources. Additionally, the xA offers dedicated Apple iPod connectivity, which delivers iPod display information and allows unit control and recharging through the audio system. Finally, the xA's horsepower rating drops from 108 to 103 due to new SAE testing procedures.

Pros:
Cons:
  • The cool stuff costs extra, modest passing power with automatic transmission, no cruise control.

  • Great car for a teenager or young adult - 2006 Scion xA
    By -

Bought this car used for our teenage daughter, and its a blast to drive. Small, so easy to maneuver and park. Gets great gas mileage. Just rough enough for the driver to feel the road (important for new drivers). Hard to beat Toyota reliability, and it even looks cool. The 4 star safety rating across the board was good, but the car we have has all the air bag options, so thats even better. Nice sound system too which is more important to the younger crowd, and ours has the optional iPod input. Great for shorter drivers. You sit up high more like in an SUV, so its easier to see out of this car than my 2005 Honda Accord. Chain instead of timing belt helps keep maintenance to a min.

  • A lot of Bang for the Buck - 2006 Scion xA

Its hard to see fault in my car so far. We bought it for its roominess, we regulary drive with 2 adults and 3 teens in the car. So far no complaints from them although our drives have been an hour or less. I wouldnt take it on a several hour drive with the entire family. Another plus was the simple buying process which was in stark contrast to another dealership (Honda) that we purchased from a week before. A total of 2 hours in the Scion dealership versus 4- 5 Hours in Honda and many Tylenol later from repeatedly telling the "finance" guy NO to aftermarkets products.

  • First Scion - 2006 Scion xA

As my first new car in 15 years, the Scion xA is impressive in many ways for a compact. Its handling is very nice, its ride is comfortable, and its controls are easy to use. One feature that takes getting used to is the pod of gauges. It is distracting at first, and takes your eyes off the road. The stereo is exceptional for a compact, and it is ready for the MP3s. Its noise level is good below 60 mph; above that slightly annoying. The styling attracts attention, in a positive way; it is reminiscent of the Mini Cooper. Its pricing is also a strong selling point. There is no haggling, very little in add on charges, and options can be added later. Cruise control, e.g., is $350 if added later; $425 if financed.

  • Buyers Remorse - 2006 Scion xA
    By -

I bought this car to save on gas. I have yet to hit the EPA estimates. In highway driving, at the speed limit of 75 mph I cranked out a whopping 26 mpg. I guess since the car was taching at 4,000 rpms in 5th gear. I should be happy it didnt blow up. Its A/C is inadequate. It has to be run on high fan and recirculate to keep the car cool. It has an uncomfortable ride. You feel every bump in the road. Alsi, its very underpowered. Check the resale values, others must not be impressed either.

I have been an ase certified auto tech. for over 30 years, I have owned and driven thousands of cars trucks and suv, I the 2006 scion xa is the best auto I have ever owned, I would recommend it to any one. Its excellent on gas, at 36mpg average, however toyota designed this car more for safety, not the gas mileage!!! i have not gotten any what so ever problems with car at all.

  • A Little Car with a lot of Personality - 2006 Scion xA

I have had my xA since the end of November. I love it. It is my first new car. I have owned many used Toyotas over the years and the Scion xA has not disapointed me. It is great on gas.

  • Speaker Upgrade Door & Cold Air - 2006 Scion xA
    By -

The Scion xA is a cute little car, some of the add ons where done at the dealer, so we had to wait to add this and that. We got the cold air intake, you wont get the extra boost, but the engine runs smoother. I did not like the door stereo upgrade, for what they charge I expected better. I told them I wanted my money back, and they just laughed.

  • Brilliant Design - 2006 Scion xA

The design of this car is superb. It is short, but the engine takes up very little space. As a result, the interior passenger compartment is amazingly large for such a short car. It is great for the city where small spaces are easier to get into with this car. The xA has a suprisingly large storage capacity. It is also high and is very easy to get in and out of. The seats are very comfortable. I have always purchased Volkswagens, but from now on I will only buy Toyotas. And the Scion xA is a spectacular value, with great mileage per gallon. I recommend this car to both young and older drivers. I am over 60 and love this car.

  • WHERES 6TH GEAR? - 2006 Scion xA
    By -

I love my Scion. Its roomy, sporty, handles well, is a breeze to park, and, when driven properly (with the 5spd), gets good mileage and is comfortable on long trips. I am 6 and have plenty of head and leg room. I installed the better xB armrest that actually has storage and it fit perfectly. With the back seats down, theres plenty of room for my two huge labs and they love to ride with their heads out the window. It comes nicely equipped, and mine has no options but for the armrest. I like the iPod connect as well as the standard CD player. If you are single or childless, the xA will handle about 95% of your driving/transportation needs. Not just a kids car; Im 36 and love it.

  • A Car Thats Sensitive to Current World Needs... - 2006 Scion xA
    By -

At a time when the our (US) goverment mentioned our dependency-addiction to oil, the Scion xA brings the right mixture for a commuting car that includes excellent gas mileage, confort, looks and a low price with a conventional engine.
