This Year's Model Updates:

The 2002 Nissan Pathfinder receives only minor refinements. These include a new front grille, steering wheel and a revised audio system with new faceplate and faster functioning in-dash six-disc CD changer. The SE trim, now the base Pathfinder since the XE has been dropped, features a new titanium-accented step rail and roof rack with integrated air dam, body-color bumpers and fender flares, new 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and new seat cloth. Not to be outdone, the luxurious LE has 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels as standard equipment this year.

Pros:
  • Powerful V6 engine, car-like interior, solid reliability record, rear entertainment system option, available Infiniti All-Mode 4WD on LE models.
Cons:
  • Tight rear accommodations, high price tag, hard-to-fold rear seats.

  • Absolutely the best vehicle ever! - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

I bought this Pathy in Oct. of 05, mainly to use as a tow vehicle for my trailer. Was not looking for 4wd, but it was an awesome deal. Quickly learned why it is so popular off road, and on road. It handles like a dream in both enviroments; will corner with the best on the street, and will climb a tree in 4wd low. It is only an occasional use vehicle (only 7k miles in the 2.5 years I have owned it), but have had 0 problems. I have taken this truck into places I wouldnt take a mule, tore off the stock plastic skidplate and scarred both side steps severely (earning a loud groan from the ATV riders following me). It is an absolute beast, and looks fantastic to boot!

  • the ultimate mid-size suv - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

apart from the crappy oem tires, this beats the pants off of the gr. cherokee i had before this. comfort, power, great fit and finish, and nissan quality. handles like my old accord, but just as capable as my jeep off- road. i test drove them all - 4runner, gr. cherokee, land rover. studied all of the reviews. edmunds was dead-on: this is a great vehicle.

Very nice ride, Ill second the smooth silky feel of the shifting. Handles great. Great visability out the front. Best bang for the buck, better buy than the 4runner! Im so happy w/the Pathfinder!

  • An excellent *sport* *utility* vehicle - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

An excellent vehicle with lots of towing power. Has better acceleration with our 3500lb boat than our last vehicle had without the boat. Very strong and smooth engine, no other vehicle compares in this category. Wish it was a little bigger and had load leveling in the rear - the back suspension is a little soft. Back seat doors are a little tough to get in & out. After 12000 miles Im still very happy with my carefully made decision. Comfortable - decent trip vehicle. Stock tires hydroplane easily.

  • Awesome SUV - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Great SUV, if youre buying an SUV expect to get and pay for the gas mileage of an SUV (17 mpg avg). Rides smooth, excellent steering, most comfortable seats front and rear, good utility, 4 wheel drive can plow through anything, gusto V6, Bose sound system is tuned perfectly- sound is great, soft touch plastics, great safe SUV. I have experienced a couple rattles up on the dash but very minor, 02 sensors went out at 75000 ($400), and the muffler (catback, everything) replaced at 65000 miles because it failed on me ($500). otherwise, great vehicle - look into it.

  • Bullfights and Steeplechase Ads for Real - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Only 4 weeks out of an Accord EX, had to make a full-throttle accident avoidance when a red light runner skidded out of control on a curve. The Pathfinder literally LEPT out of the intersection and twisted around the oncoming vehicle. It remained level and solid thoughout and scared the beJesus out of me, as well as several bystanders. Awesome response and solid handling.

  • Still Like It - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

I got my Pathfinder brand new and drive it 30 miles every day to and from work. My husband and I also wind up driving it on the weekends instead of his 2003 Chevrolet Pickup. We call it the "grocery wagon" because its so easy to access the back to put in shopping bags. It seems like it can haul just about as much as a full-sized pickup when we fold the seats down. Its sturdy, airtight, and has plenty of pickup on the road. I was looking for another SUV, but the new ones dont have much more to offer than my 2002 model.

  • LE w/Nav System and DVD player - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Pathfinder purchased had 3500 miles and came w/ everything. Its a pleasure to drive, solid in construction and well designed. Time will tell whether it holds up. Dealership experience very positive. Did not seem eager to discuss the .9 financing. Picked up the car a couple of hours later; they took it upon themselves to do oil change and give full tank of gas.

  • Great rig - 2002 Nissan Pathfinder

Bought this new and thought it was fine. After 6 years of only doing minimal maintenance, this thing rocks. With limited slip diff and old fashioned 4x4 (which I prefer), this thing can plow thru any snow and even does better than most others trucks/SUVs in icy conditions. Just get some good aggressive tires for offroading or deep snow.
