Not satisfied with the current crop of crossover SUVs? Nissan rolls out the newest car-based SUV, the Murano. It boasts a powerful V6 engine and distinctive styling.

Pros:

Cons:
  • No third-row seating, SE model rides harshly, gets pricey with options.

I have a 2003 Murano 140,000 miles I have replaced my transfer case three years ago called Nissan for help and got no where with them I had to pay out of pocket $3ooo. Two months after that I have to replace the catalitc converter another big job. Now a month ago I had to replace the gas pump again another big expensive job. But my real problem is my transmission the problem started last summer where after driving the car for about 20 to 30 min and then get into traffic the car starts to hesitate when pressing on the gas I took the car to the dealer w/ no help they told me I had to bring the car when it was happening and this problem doesnt happen all the time. So finally I take it aga

Bought our gold Murano new in 2003 and use it for long long road trips. Weve put over 75000 miles on her and shes going strong. We checked out the Mercedes and Lexus SUVs at the time, and they were noisier. We enjoy the quiet ride of the Murano. We can carry on a conversation without yelling. Theres lots of room for the two of us and our dog. The ride is great; theres power to spare. Gas mileage is so-so (20 mpg), but we have only used regular gas and the engine runs great.

Has a very smooth ride, even over hard roads. The controls are all with in easy reach. The leg room in the back seats is very roomy.

excellant to look at some flaws in design especially wipers a recall is in the works====== for shifter nut not tightened properly (on a $30000 car a bit perplexing also rain gets in the hatch area as well as the doors when existing. car looks good but there has to be improvements. almost sorry i didnt wait for second year model.

This car is a bargain compared to Acura MDX, Honda Pilot, Lexus RX330. Its comfortable, has acceleration, maneuverability, convenient/easy to operate interior gadgets(tailgate, seats, etc), has a phenomenal Bose radio, and the styling is a head turner. Handles like a car and is built solid. Fuel use: 19mph in gross rush hour traffic (like average speed of only 27 mph per week (thats not a misprint). Nav system is tremendous convenience. It has a traffic avoidance feature that helps getting around wicked traffic jams. Its easy to use. Caution: If youre looking for a real offroad capability...dont buy a Murano. Other than that...this car is an ace.

I have had my Murano for three weeks now and I totally love it. Love everything about this car, the interior build is of nice quality, the exterior is sharp looking too - head turner! Its got a smooth ride, wouldnt know you are in an USV. Overall, good car!

  • I LOVE IT - 2003 Nissan Murano

It handles as well as my BMW did. I tried the X5 and the Pacifica. They were overrated(BMW and underpowered (Pacifica). My Blue Murano has 24 ct. plating on the the outside chrome (front and rear) I saw it in the showroom and it was love at 1st sight. Today(12/06/03), in a bad snow storm, I passed alot of struggling cars(BMWs, Jeeps and other lessor Urban SUVs) in a show of superiority. This car is awesome to drive and turns heads. Nissan should have put the Infinity label on the Murano, because the style is superior. People still ask me what it is. One of my employees was upset because her new Lexus SUV was " not as pretty".

all in all a nice car...terrible in snow, even with awd. takes much to long to get up to speed, even at full trottle

  • Poor Fuel Economy - 2003 Nissan Murano

We absolutely love the look, the ride, and the comfort of this vehicle. It handles very well, but regardless of city or highway miles, the miles per gallon are not as stated on the dealer invoice. One other small design flaw is the headlight switch placement. This is the only thing we truly do not like about the vehicle. The switch can be manually used, or put in the automatic position.(Which we use.) However, the switch is placed on the blinker arm, and at times when you use the directional, you unknowingly move the position of the headlight setting. If they can improve MPGs and the headlight inconvenience, I would own Murano after Murano for life!

I dont own this car but would like to. I spent a lot of time at IRA Nissan and test drove this vehicle. Its a lot of fun to drive and versatile. Im not sure what to make of the continously variable transmission, time will tell on that. Also, the 18" tires ought to be a bit of a surprise when they need to be replaced, I would bet that they are expensive. Too bad they dont offer a more bare bones AWD version of this car. Its too expensive for me, Id be all over it if it was available in AWD for under $28 k
