This Year's Model Updates:

Not satisfied with the current crop of crossover SUVs? Nissan rolls out the newest car-based SUV, the Murano. It boasts a powerful V6 engine and distinctive styling.

Pros:
  • Very good use of interior space, unique styling inside and out, smooth and powerful engine.
Cons:
  • No third-row seating, SE model rides harshly, gets pricey with options.

Before you buy the Murano, test drive it and do this test! I guarantee you probably will think twice about buying the Murano. Go with the salesman and before starting out, roll down the back two windows, all the way down, leaving the front windows and the sunroof CLOSED. Drive past 35mph and LISTEN!!!! What youll experience is the worse case of in-cabin turbulence meaning your eardrums feel like theyre going to explode.

EVERY SUV I looked at pretty much had the "tippy" syndrome. In inclimate weather, I dont want a car thats going feel tippy much less BE tippy. Just about all these SUVs looked the same, too. Now...the Murano....what an unbelievably sharp looking car!! Weve had it for a year, and it STILL turns heads!! As for room, my husband is 62" and can cross his legs in the back seat...and it fits in our garage beautifully!! Absolutely NO tippy!! Take a turn and it stays flat!! We love this car!!

I have been driving the Murano for a month and really enjoy the ride and handling. Both are just perfect for the size and performance of the vehicle and the road conditions in southeast Michigan. I no longer even realize the non-shift operation of the CVT transmission, but it makes for very quick and smooth acceleration. In all, this is a great vehicle.

THE SUV IS AWESOME, THE ALARM WENT OFF FOR THE TIRE PRESSURE AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER RIGHT AWAY TO KNOW THERE WAS A SCREW IN MY TIRE. AS WITH OTHER CARS I WOULD HAVE NEVER KNOWN AND GOT A FLAT AND BEEN STUCK! BUT THEN AGAIN NISSAN ALWAYS BUILDS A GREAT CAR FOR YOUR MONEY.

So now that the 2003 models have some serious mileage on them, I am curious how many of them had transmission issues... At 68,000 we had to replace ours and 30,000 miles later, the transfer case had to be replaced. Got past the minor annoyances (poorly placed rear cup holders, buttons on rear view mirror should be lit) early on but the transmission issue is a problem.

i really like my Murano. i have had some bugs that had to be taken care of. Backing up I had a loud sqeal my odometer had to be replacedbefore 1000 miles . i also had a rattle underneath that turned out to be my emergency brake cable had to much play in it. otherwise i love my car. Ive had alot of complements and looks from everyone while driving it.

Steering is almost as good as my 2002 TBird. Fun to drive. Great tow vehicle for my 3500 lb. boat and trailer. Love the CVT on hills with speed control on. No annoying downshifts. I test drove the FX-35 and liked the Murano better, and got all the same features for $10K less. Whats not to like about this car and it really turns heads.

  • Awesome Vehicle - 2003 Nissan Murano

I dont normally write reviews, but after driving many CUVs including the new Ford Edge, i bought an 03 Murano. It has been a great pleasure to drive, is classy, comfortable and smart on the inside without being snotty, holds cargo roads like a truck but drives like a car (good clearance and AWD for mountain roads, but its no 4Runner). I cant comment on reliability yet, but it had 70k when I got it and was/is running great. if youre looking for a CUV type vehicle, at the very least you should test drive one of these - and dont worry, the initially weird CVT goes unnoticed after getting used to it.

  • Renault is tarnishing Nissans reliability - 2003 Nissan Murano
    By -

These Nissans in many respects are Renaults in disguise. Renault has consistently produced unreliable cars for decades and now that they own Nissan, many of Nissans products are suffering. The Nissan Murano looks nice, and has nice features, but it is a reliability disaster as with every other "Renault". They are not designed to last, but instead designed to be "profitable" to the company. Id reccomended not buying and going for a more reliable brand.
