This Year's Model Updates:

The base E320 is replaced with the E350 for 2006. The new model name indicates a new engine -- a 3.5-liter V6 with 268 hp, a 20-percent increase from the previous E320.

Pros:
  • Sleek and dignified design inside and out, pleasing blend of ride and handling, sophisticated safety features, all-wheel drive available on both sedan and wagon models.
Cons:
  • More expensive than competitors, confusing control layout, electronically controlled brakes lack progressive feel.

  • If you can do it - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Although a push financially, the E55 is a monster swaddled in Armani. An understated, elegant, every day driver that will dust anything that challenges the "55" nameplate. And they will challenge it. Think of a brand new Aston Martin Vanquish pulling up hard on your right, the light changes and the Vanquish is "Vanquished" three car lengths behind. Hard to put a price tag on that moment. I couldnt. The E55 has cult status. Everyone asks,"Can it really do what they say it can". Yes. Yes it can. And then some. If youre throwing your hat in the super performance car ring, the E55 has to be considered. It can haul kids, signifcant others, friends to dinner, as well as plain out "haul".

So far zero problems with this car. I bought it transferred from Houston to Phoenix with 45k mi, and have 60k mi now. Everything is perfect. Fuel mileage summer 24/36 winter 29/38 city/highway. My typical city driving is 6 mile each way with 15 lights. hwy hilly and 75 to 80mph. Note ac use is the mpg killer in Phoenix.

  • Awesome - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This is my first car ever and I love it. The ride is so smooth. The inside is so beautiful. The wood trim is gorgeous along with the chrome trim. The body style is sport yet very luxurious at the same time. I have the premium sound system which is incredible and the courtesy blinds which come in handy when its very sunny. The navigation could be a little bit more on track, but overall, a very amazing vehicle, how can you beat a Mercedes-Benz?

  • Love my car - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I bought this car as a used car at a dealership. Got an excellent price. Has over 126k miles but drives like new. Everything works like new. The interior is in pristine condition. For people who spill the occasional drink the stainguard on the floor mat works marvelously. The gas mileage is averaging 35 mph with a/c in Phoenix at speeds averaging 70 mph. I read previously an issue with that but I havent experienced it. I drive 80 roundtrip miles daily and this car is perfect for it. My carpool buddy loves how comfortable the seats can be for his naps on the way home. The overhead lighting for the back seat passengers is very helpful for passengers to navigate maps, etc while Im driving.

  • What a car ! - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I just plain love this car. I ordered from the factory with Obsidian black exterior and options like the HID lighting, and just could not be happier. The pickup, performance and handling are stunning, the interior is perfect, and the sound system performs as well as the car. I specifically wanted a certain set of options, so I sat with my dealer and made a build sheet and waited for delivery from Germay and I am not disappointed. The car is all I had expected and more. I am a diesel lover - I also have a VW diesel and I just cannot adjust to how quiet and quick this MB CDi is. Mileage has varied between 24 and 32 MPG, and tends to run higher when my wife drives it. She loves it as well.

  • 7-speed transmission problems - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Ive owned 6 MBs in the last 28 years, theyve all been reliable cars. Last year, I purchased a CPO 2006 E350 with 37,000 mi and an extended warranty. Thank God I purchased the warranty! Within six months a major oil leak had to be repaired on the engine and an interior trim piece on the center console pealed off; not so bad. Two days ago, I was driving and the transmission bumped hard down shifting from 2nd to 1st gear. When I drove off, it would not shift out of 1st gear. Had it towed to my dealer. They called today and said there was dark foreign fluid in the transmission fluid, that an interior part had failed and the transmission would need to be rebuilt or replaced. Not amused!

  • Best Sedan - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This absolutely the best driving sedan I have ever purchased. The CDI is a awsome engine. On highway driving 85mph, I am still getting 35mpg, and in the city I am getting 24mpg, but again I have a lead foot!

  • The true Mercedes-Benz - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I bought this car when it was less than 6 months old with 4000 miles on it. I have had no problems with it at all and the drive and fuel economy is excellent. My only problem is that it is a bit too conservative for me, but after all Im coming from a V8 BMW. But youve got to love the 37MPG for the 0-60 in 6.6 seconds. The interior is so much nicer than any of its competitors and there is enough space for 4 adults, even for long drives. I have installed the iPod option after market and it is the best thing you can ask for. Forget CD changers!

  • E350 4Matic - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Its time for me to give my 39 month lease back. I would highly recommend this car. I spend 2.5 - 3 hurs a day in it for a commute and it has been great. Only problem I had was with the all wheel drive transfer box. Supposedly they had problems with the lubricants in this year and the car vibrates when moving slowly and making sharp turns (approx $4000 fix if out of warranty).
