This Year's Model Updates:

The base E320 is replaced with the E350 for 2006. The new model name indicates a new engine -- a 3.5-liter V6 with 268 hp, a 20-percent increase from the previous E320.

Pros:
  • Sleek and dignified design inside and out, pleasing blend of ride and handling, sophisticated safety features, all-wheel drive available on both sedan and wagon models.
Cons:
  • More expensive than competitors, confusing control layout, electronically controlled brakes lack progressive feel.

  • Smooth and Quiet - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Smooth and quiet was my objective in a luxury car due to hearing problems and headaches caused by a fun but loud and harsh sports car. Fotrunately I found what I needed. I would ordinarily not consider a six cylinder, good power and performance with a smooth ride engine, but I tried the E350 and was very pleasantly surprised. In town economy is outstanding.

I was pulling out of a parking lot onto a busy street, and a pickup truck was bearing down on me; so I gave it some gas—it let out a low roar and went into hyper space. I did not expect that kind of performance, but it was there when I needed it. Ive always liked the design of this model on the outside, but the inside is gorgeous too. Im using a car cover—my last Mercedes Benz (bought new in 1983—240D) lasted me 16 years; and I hope this one does too. The car cover helps keep the nicks and scratches down and protects it from UV rays-- looks like new for life!

  • Great car - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Overall a fantastic car! The ride is smooth, yet without the disconnected feel. Whatever you do, get vented seats! Navigation kinda dumb sometimes when it comes to choosing the best route. Love the multi-language option. Engine is powerful enough. 7 speed transmission is a disaster. Downshift takes too much time, you really need to floor it to get "instant" shift. Im used to driving a stick, automatic has always been a drag for me. Gas mileage stinks. I get about 20 avg reading on the highway, vs. advertised 27. Breaks work brilliantly. Sound system has a weird frequency response curve, the louder you make it, the less highs you hear, and the mid sticks out like a sore thumb. Fast!

  • Perfect car - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

As a previous BMW 5 series owner, I doubted that another car would compare favorably to that. The E350 4-matic is a dream to drive. The extra horsepower makes all the difference. All electronics work great. The car is beautiful inside and out. Quality all around.

  • High end MB with low end econobox milage - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Great build quality, interior layout and handling. Quiet engine, as well as wind noise at high speed due to high tech diesel and .27 drag coef. Handling is best Ive seen in a 4000lb sedan with road tests give it a .84 skid pad rating.. With 17" 245/45 wheels/tires it almost handles like a sports car. I am getting over 40 mpg consistently at speed over 70mph in freeway milage.. amazing.

Ever since I first saw the exterior styling of this E350 Ive wanted one. The style was continued until 2009, and then changed in 2010 to a more angular look. So the 2006 looks exactly like the 2009 and the same model before it. This model has more pep than I realized, and I like the details and safety of the car. Very comfy.

This car has made driving fun again. Great handling, firm solid feeling, and an excellent build quality. After driving BMW and Lexus, there was no comparison to the overall driving experience. Better than advertised fuel economy. Only complaint is a some what noisy HVAC system.

  • Great combo of ride and drive! - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This car replaced a 2002 BMW 5 series. I just could not warm to the new 5 series interior/exterior. I never owned a MBZ, but this car is great. Quiet, serene ride and good handling, feels very competent and secure on the road. Nice interior is dignified and well done, with a touch of sportiness with the Appearance pkg. The 7 speed V6 is smooth and has plenty of power, Seats are first rate and I no longer get lower back pain on long drives, like I did in the BMW. This car is a wonderful combination of comfortable cruiser with enough road manners to make it fun to drive. I wopuld not get it without the appearannce package - makes it look so much better - in and out

  • Have to get rid of this one. - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Wonderful to drive. Fabulous mileage. Have driven MB since 1982. This is my last one. Has left me on the side of the road three times away from my home state in only 21000 miles. Fuel lift pump and fuel gauge sender unit is weak. It must be the same as from the gas engined car. Unit has been replaced twice. Air conditioner freezes up after driving two or three hours and has to be turned off to thaw, but refreezes every thirty minutes or so. Dealership seems unable to fix it. Mysterious electronic bugs in display that come and go. Preheat indicator sometimes comes on and stays on for three or four minutes. This car is not reliable enough to drive long distances!

  • Best Car Ive ever owned - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This car is a pleasure to drive. Plenty of power and the the seven speed is really smooth. My wife and I fight over this car. Just pure driving enjoyment.
