This Year's Model Updates:

New body-colored door edge guards are available as an option, as is Homelink and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with a built-in compass.

Pros:
  • Roomy and comfortable interior, peppy V6 engine, drives more like a car than a truck.
Cons:
  • Weak base four-cylinder, mediocre fuel economy and driving range on V6 models, cheap-looking interior.

Picked up 2004 ES 4WD Tribute after shopping for 2 months. Though they are supposed to be the same, the Tribute rode and steered better than the Escape. Rounded Tail gate vs Squared off tailgate of Escape seems to provide the appearance of bigger cargo area.

I recently owned a 2 door honda civic and had to sell it due to the fact I am expecting my first child. We wanted to get a 4 door, but not a minivan. The Tribute was a good compromise. ***the truck I bought has paint bubbles in the clear coat on the liftgate, that I didnt notice until after I had bought it. My dealer ship is supposed to touch it up, but I wish I had noticed before taking delivery.

Just got back from DisneyWorld. Loved the way my new Tribute handles. Smooth driving. Turning in lease for a Montana, glad its going back. If your looking for a great dealership in South Florida, go to Gunther Mazada and see Jim Collins. He is the best! They clearly like to give the best deal!

  • Amazing Vehicle - 2004 Mazda Tribute

I purchased this SUV mainly because I missed driving an SUV (I originally drove a Ford Explorer and then went with a Mazda Millenia.) This was the first car I have purchased and I have not been disappointed. Mazda has been good to me as far as service and reliability so I was happy to purchase a Mazda vehicle. This is a fun car to drive. It handles like a car and I often forget that I am driving an SUV. For anyone who is seeking to purchase an SUV, I would highly recommend the Tribute. It has plenty of room for the kids I nannyed for this summer, taking all of my stuff down to school, and getting me around the city. I dont think twice about the reliability of this car. It will get me there!

  • Fantastic driving experience - 2004 Mazda Tribute

I have been driving over 56 years and my Mazda Tribute has been the most enjoyable drive ever! In three years of driving the only mechanical problem required replacement of the transmission which was dealt with very well by the dealer. It still has a new car smell and each time I get in it I feel as excited as when it was new. The finish is still like new and shines as if just waxed. Soon I will be ready for an upgrade to a more current model.

  • Good for the money - 2004 Mazda Tribute

Purchased mine as a used vehicle from our credit union as a lease return. Agree this is an SUV, not a car, so ride is acceptable. Started out with a Suburban, then a Durango, now the Mazda. The short wheelbase is a little rougher, but overall a solid vehicle. The mileage could be better, but after driving two notorious gas guzzlers, Im happy. The engine is plenty powerful with good pick-up, unlike the Dodge I owned, that seemed to go from 0-60 in about an hour! Handling this years rough Northern Michigan winter like a charm, even out of 4WD. After a couple of hours, the seats get a little hard, additional cushioning would help.

Purchase my Mazda Tribute from a local Mazda dealer in the Mpls/St Paul area. Went to three different dealers, ended up going to back the 1st dealer. My Tribute is loaded, with leather, had 5000 miles on it demo. I have driven in the cities daily, and to the Black Hills. The SUV sticks to the road even the wind. Engine has pently of power for SUV. It is does not feel like a big SUV in tight parking lots, crusing around the cities. Seats are very comfortable, good viewing all around the SUV.

  • Wonderful Car - 2004 Mazda Tribute

I love my DX, even with the 4-cyl and manual transmission. While its not going to win any races, it has plenty of power for everyday driving. At only 3000 lbs, its power to weight ratio is about the same as most other 4-cyl midsized cars, and I really appreciate the great 23/28 MPG. Im most impressed by the crisp and smooth shifter which has an execellent feel, thanks to a direct linkage. Steering response is also outstanding. Im perplexed by edmunds quote the interrior "looks cheep", which I find simple but attractive and well thought out.
